Description: As a therapeutic recreation (t-rec) aide at CHCC, you will help older adults who live in a long-term care setting stay active and engaged. You’ll have the chance to bring joy and meaning to their lives through social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and physical programs.
Shift: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, plus regular weekend rotations. Must be available for other shifts as needed. Shifts are scheduled monthly in advance.
Responsibilities:
Help plan, develop, organize, implement and document activity programs.
Set up activities, supplies and equipment.
Facilitate one-on-one visits with residents to offer encouragement and friendship.
Assist with various resident-related tasks including video visits with family, personal correspondence and community outings.
Provide residents with reading and listening materials; help turn on/off in-room recreational equipment.
Help maintain a clean, sanitary and safe activity environment.
Document program attendance, chart resident’s activity progress.
Transport residents to and from recreation activities.
Complete daily assignments, such as deliver mail, lock activity room, update activity boards.

Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED is required.
Training is provided on the job.
Experience working with the elderly or dementia population preferred but not required.
Nursing assistant certification is preferred but not required.
Good attendance is an essential requirement of this position.
Skills:
Desire to work with the elderly population. Must be comfortable working around residents who are terminally ill and residents who may be bedridden.
Present a cheerful and willing disposition and able to work with a variety of resident behaviors/emotions including but not limited to anger, frustration, depressed, manic, sad and various levels of dementia.
Have a positive working rapport with fellow staff members, patients and residents.
Able to create and maintain a comfortable, warm and friendly atmosphere.
Able to verbally communicate in a pleasant, professional manner.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills; able to speak, read and write the English language.
Able to handle the responsibility of providing residents with a safe and positive experience outside of the facility.
Detail-oriented, excellent organizational skills.
Compensation:
Aide: $17 to $20.63 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.
Aide/CNA: $22.50 to $25.40 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.
Sick time accrual
Holiday pay (double) if scheduled to work on major holidays

Vacation accrual (for part-time employees who work 20–29 hours per week)
