Program Coordinator

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Works with BSAC Director, fitness instructors, WCOA staff, volunteers and members and over to develop and facilitate an array of interesting, fun and relevant programs to promote healthy aging with an initial focus on group fitness, other fee-based programing and rentals at BSAC North. Supports volunteers assigned to BSAC North. The successful candidate can work independently, provides excellent communication and customer service and builds relationships with members of the Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Development:

 Plan & implement a variety of fee-based group fitness programs.

 Recruit, interview, coordinate with, and schedule potential fitness instructors, speakers, activity leaders, and entertainers for Center programs.

 Interact with members and community to encourage participation and involvement in center activities.

 Compile attendance and participation statistics for Center programs.

 Coordination of all activities and programs at BSAC North.

Administration

 Work with BSAC Manager and BSAC Advisory Committee to develop fundraising events and monitor program expenditures and ensuring that costs remain within allocated funds.

 Work with Center leadership to develop, organize, and coordinate office procedures.

 Ensure that required reports and records are completed in a timely manner and accurate manner.

 Supervises interns/volunteers from external organizations, scheduling, training, time reporting verification, evaluations and general human resource functions.

Communications

 Advertise activities to local neighborhoods.

 Prepare news and public relations releases of Center program information to the media.

 Design and produce various forms, programs, brochures, flyers, and signs for activities.

 Design BSAC North page(s) for bulletin in conjunction with BSAC Central Program Coordinator.

 Support the center’s public relations activities to promote the Center within the greater community.

Facility Coordination

 Lead daily on-site operations including opening and closing, set-up and take-down for daily programs and special events.

 Perform custodial duties indoors and outdoors.

 Oversee calendar and scheduling of activities at 140 E. Bellis Fair Location.

 Coordinate contractors for scheduling of maintenance and security needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Education and Experience

 BA or BS in Recreation, Community Health Education, Human Services, marketing or related field.

 Experience working with older adults in a fitness setting is desired.

 Strong networking, organizational development and facilitation skills and experience.

 Volunteer recruitment, training and management experience highly desirable.

 Experience in community organizing, event planning, health promotion and recreation helpful.

 Work experience in coordinating, publicizing, and evaluating programs/activities for adults.

Skills and Knowledge

 Strong demonstrated ability to promote programs and coordinate programs with other community organizations.

 Knowledge of adult learning styles and healthy behaviors.

 Strong administrative skills to include telephone skills, record keeping, money handling, database management, and written/verbal skills. Some office management preferred.

 Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals from a variety of occupational, educational and emotional backgrounds using courtesy, tact, and sensitivity.

 Interest and ability to work with population age 50 and over.

 Desktop publishing skills required. Experience with Canva preferred.

 Basic first aid and CPR required (or must be obtained).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 Works closely with Center membership and leadership, volunteers, Council on Aging staff and community partners.

 May be required to work some evenings and weekends with prior notice.

 Works in a fast paced, sometimes loud environment including reception, meeting rooms, or recreational facility setting (teaching group fitness).

 Sits or stands for long periods of time.

 May occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

 May work in areas with exposure to blood borne pathogens and environmental allergens.

 Possibility of exposure to hostile and offensive language from the public. Uses appropriate safety equipment and follows established work safety policies, practices and procedures.
