This part time position is responsible for managing the Blaine Welcome Center, handling day to day operations of the Blaine Chamber of Commerce.
Key responsibilities include managing the Visitor Center staff to successfully fulfill the mission of the Visitor Center and the Chamber, executing the programs and offerings of the Visitor Center to serve visitors, the local community and business membership.
The Visitor Center Manager leads the Chamber’s highly visible and active Visitor Center, which serves more than 5,000 customers each year. Key responsibilities include managing the Visitor Center staff to successfully fulfill the mission of the Visitor Center and the Chamber, executing the programs and offerings of the Visitor Center to serve visitors, the local community and business membership, managing retail sales in the Visitor Center and growing revenue and offerings. This is a very visible role within the Chamber and the community and reports directly to the Chamber Executive Board.
Manage all the daily activities, communications, and correspondence of the Blaine Chamber of Commerce. Serve on the Blaine Chamber of Commerce Executive Board. Provide thorough follow up and reply to customers or Chamber members’ requests in a timely manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the Chamber’s Visitor Center, including hiring, firing, scheduling, supervision and training of Visitor Center volunteers to ensure that the Center has well-trained, knowledgeable and friendly information specialists.
Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning, commitment and quality.
Potential for future retail sales. Responsible for managing the Visitor Center budget: hit retail sales and project goals, maintain inventory and control expenses.
Lead the successful execution and implementation of the City Visitor Center-related contracts, track performance against expectations and prepare monthly and quarterly reports and presentations.
Oversee Blaine Chamber of Commerce operations. Support Chamber membership outreach strategy including onboarding and retention efforts. Expand Chamber membership. Ensure members remain in good standing and process annual membership as defined by the Chamber By-laws.
Plan and operate all Chamber events and meetings. Organize monthly networking breakfast/luncheon and schedule a guest speaker.
Plan and execute the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting in February.
Manage and keep information up to date on the Blaine Chamber website and social media pages (Facebook & Instagram). Update and send bi-weekly newsletter.
Build and maintain relationships with the Blaine business community. Maintain and grow Chamber membership.
Maintain and monitor Blaine Chamber accounts, expenses, deposits. Create invoices and ensure membership dues are up to date.
Submit City grant applications by deadline and research grant opportunities and consider alternate funding sources.
Maintain consistent communication with the board of directors.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:
5 – 10 years of related experience, including retail management, marketing and/or tourism or customer service experience Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities:
Proven experience in inventory management
Proficiency with MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), calendar program (MS Outlook), Chamber Master and web portals.
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build and maintain relationships
Strong customer service understanding
Proven ability to manage staff
Ability to think critically and work independently with limited supervision
Ability to occasionally work weekends/afterhours/travel
This position reports to the Executive Board and may require working on designated weekends, nights, holidays, etc. as needed.
This is an hourly position with flexible work schedule at 20 hours per week.
The hourly rate range is $22.00 – 30.00 per hour based on relative experience.
