DescriptionWhat You'll DoThe Intermodal Operations Specialist is responsible for safely performing activities and completing processes that place customer freight for intermodal rail and yard movement according to client's need. This role is a cross-trained position with responsibilities including, but not limited to, yard/lift operations, securement, clerical administrative duties, load plan coordination, customer service, driver assistance, safety leader, terminal operating system knowledge, and remote operations in a fast-paced outdoor environment.Responsibilities
Collaborate with team members to plan and coordinate the daily workload, ensuring efficiency and safety in operations.
Attend or lead pre-shift job briefings and monthly safety meetings to ensure awareness and compliance with safety protocols.
Perform pre- and post-shift cursory inspections of equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety standards are met.
Safely operate various lift equipment, including overhead cranes, side loaders, and reach stackers, to load and unload containers and trailers from railcars, stacks, and chassis.
Safely lift and lower containers and trailers from elevated heights; ascend and descend railcars as needed.
Safely handle and lift interbox connectors (IBC) for container securement.
Ensure proper securement of all containers, trailers, and intermodal flatcars.
Operate utility tractors (UTRs) to move equipment within the yard, between stacks, and to/from railcars.
Utilize Terminal Operating System (TOS) for yard inventory management, load planning, yard allocations, work order completion, train closures, and other operational duties.
In-gate and out-gate over-the-road (OTR) drivers using mobile technology to facilitate efficient entry/exit.
Utilize Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for administrative tasks and reporting.
Track and report key performance metrics to leadership to ensure operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
Develop and maintain relationships with Class 1 railroad terminal personnel to support smooth operations and communications.
Support remote operations, including operating overhead gantry cranes, load planning for multiple Class 1 terminals, and assisting with customer service and driver calls.
Cross-Train to Support Grain Transloading Operations:
Operate and monitor equipment such as conveyors, augers, gate openers, and loaders to ensure smooth and efficient grain handling.
Safely load and unload grain from trucks and railcars, adhering to established safety protocols.
Conduct regular inspections of equipment to verify proper functionality and compliance with safety standards.
Maintain accurate records of grain products, shipments, and railcar details.
Collaborate with team members to optimize workflow, improve efficiency, and minimize downtime.
Perform routine maintenance and promptly report any equipment malfunctions or issues to management.
Clean and maintain equipment and work areas to ensure a safe and organized environment.
Assist in the movement of railcars and the operation of rail switches as needed.
What You'll NeedRequired
High school diploma or equivalent, or prior experience in an intermodal facility
Valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR)
Experience operating hostler equipment in tight spaces.
Experience with heavy lift equipment, including Rubber Tire Gantry (RTG) Cranes, Rail-Mounted Gantry (RMG) Cranes, Side Loaders, and Reach Stackers.
Strong efficiency and time management skills.
Comfort and ability to work at heights of five to six feet above ground.
Flexibility to adapt to changing facility demands, including seasonal fluctuations, disrupted schedules, and evolving industry needs.
Ability to pass background checks and drug screening in compliance with Class 1 Railroad and E-Railsafe protocols.
Proficiency or ability to learn computer systems required for terminal operations.

This role requires employees to be on-site during shifts.
Work Schedule:REMPREX operates 24/7/365, and this is a full-time position with a rotating shift schedule. Shifts may include weekends, nights, holidays, and on-call duties, and can occasionally require extended hours, including coverage for vacation or sick days. The role requires frequent interaction with rail equipment and other intermodal machinery, where safety precautions and hazard awareness are critical.
