Find your future with us.Boeing Defense, Space and Security is seeking a Lead Guidance, Navigation and Control (GN&C) Engineer to support a growing portfolio of proprietary programs at the Kent Space Center in Kent, WA. While the position is full time for a single program, the opportunity exists to support GN&C activities across multiple programs solving a multitude of challenging design aspects for space vehicles. Activities include GN&C design, analysis, verification and testing for space environments.An ideal candidate has a strong technical background in aerospace, astrodynamics, space environment and spacecraft operational knowledge, and possess solid fundamentals in dynamics. Experience with inertial and relative navigation is desired. A strong candidate also has experience with simulation and mathematical modeling, is comfortable with MATLAB and Simulink, and has experience with C/C or is generally proficient in programming languages. The candidate will also need to be able to work effectively in broad, minimally-defined design spaces.As a member of our GN&C team, you will join a highly experienced and mission-focused team of engineers who develop new concepts in mission planning, precision maneuver and spacecraft autonomy. We rapidly prototype new concepts then deploy and iterate our designs and systems. As an engineer working in this area you will typically be involved in simulation development, system analysis, development of GN&C requirements, software development, hardware/software integration, operational concept development, and flight test in space environments. Our development timelines are aggressive and you will play an important role in developing innovative solutions to challenging problems.Position Responsibilities:
Gathers, defines and documents system level requirements to support flight control and mission or trajectory requirements definition.
Resolves requirement conflicts.
Performs and documents analysis and design of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) systems to validate or assess the system design or models.
Develops solutions and disposition of issues to assure customer satisfaction.
Designs trade studies to meet program requirements.
Works under general direction.
This position is expected to be onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.Work Authorization:This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
5+ years of experience with guidance and navigation of a spacecraft
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Active Top Secret Clearance preferred
Experience with Astrodynamics
1+ years’ experience using MATLAB or Simulink
Experience with in spacecraft dynamics and orbit analysis.
Experience operating in aerospace environments.
Experience working with classical and modern control theory/design/analysis
Experience with aerodynamics.
Experience working with navigation controls (Kalman filters, GPS/INS, state determination, attitude estimation).
Typical Education & Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).
