The STAR Project is looking for a Rapid Re-entry Sober House Manager at an all-male Recovery Residence for justice-impacted people. This position requires an individual with leadership and people management skills and a passion for helping others in their recovery journey. The Rapid Re-entry Sober House Manager is a part-time, live-in professional with the responsibility of managing and coordinating the Recovery Residence. This position works directly with male-identified people in recovery who are exiting incarceration, providing structure and support to those seeking to establish stable long-term recovery from substance use disorder, addictive and maladaptive behaviors, and/or trauma.
The Rapid Re-entry Sober House Manager oversees daily operations of the Recovery Residence. Duties include, but are not limited to: managing and coordinating daily housekeeping tasks, leading weekly “House Meetings,” conducting inspections, and making recommendations and arrangements for random drug testing. This position is also involved in supporting residents in developing recovery plans and modeling skills residents need to live in recovery and thrive in community.
The Rapid Re-entry Sober House Manager works as part of a team and receives regular non-clinical supervision and clinical supervision as required. Candidates for this position must be able to maintain organized records, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and be able to interact appropriately and professionally with male-identified persons who are working to reintegrate into the community and strengthen their recovery. Candidates must also be able to effectively handle emergency or crisis situations as they arise.
The position is perfect for a mature student, a retired individual, or those with flexible employment/self-employed, requiring regular presence in the residence including being present overnight, and 40-50 hours of active duty time per month.
This position is in a 1950s era home that while extensively updated does present some mobility challenges.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have 2 or more years of sustained, verifiable, recovery from a substance use disorder or other addictive and/or
maladaptive behavior and an active personal recovery plan.
- Justice-impacted and/or strong understanding of the carceral system and it's impacts.
- Approach leadership with a trauma-informed, anti racist, and anti oppressive lense.
- Willingness to obtain additional education and certifications including Washington Peer Counselor Certification, Basic
First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, and drug testing procedures.
- Must be able to live in a shared living situation with male-identified persons. Requires maintaining a visible presence in
the residence, including being present in the residence at night, and sharing facilities, including bathrooms.
- Have minor house maintenance/repair skills, basic cooking skills, and an ability to maintain overall cleanliness and
condition of the residence.
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel) or willingness to attend training/acquire necessary
skills.
- High School Diploma, GED, or willingness to obtain GED or High School Completion.
- Knowledge of community resources or willingness to learn and explore.
- Ability to navigate stairs. This position is in a 1950s era home that while extensively updated does present some
mobility challenges.
COMPENSATION
- Private Room - furnished or you may bring your preferred furnishings ($800 monthly value).
- $300 biweekly stipend.
- Hours required beyond 50 per month paid at $25 per hour.
