THE JOB
The Journeyman Tankerman / Terminal Operator position is responsible for following work direction in the handling, transferring, and storage of hazardous and non-hazardous bulk liquid products at Tidewater Terminal Company (TTC) facilities and customer locations, while also operating in a safe and efficient manner. The activities associated with this position include the handling of commodities through the use of pipelines, railcars, trucks and barges. This position will maintain appropriate communication during daily activities via radio, cell phone or other means with marine dock, vessel, rail, pipeline, contractors, and other personnel throughout the course of a product transfer or movement as required. Individuals in this position will be a member of the Tidewater Spill Response team and will be expected to work in a 24/7/365 environment. This role will also:
- Work with Tidewater employees, customers, contractors, vendors and suppliers in the receipt, transfer, and delivery of hazardous and non-hazardous bulk liquid products. The activities associated with this position include, but are not limited to, product handling using pipeline, rail, marine and truck loading, unloading and transfer assets. The products handled include refined petroleum fuels, fertilizer, agricultural chemicals, and various non-hazardous chemicals such as calcium chloride and calcium chloride additives.
- Maintain appropriate communication during daily activities via radio, cell phone or other means with marine dock, vessel, rail, pipeline, contractors, and other personnel throughout the course of a product transfer or movement as required.
- Use mechanical and electronic equipment to monitor and measure product movements, perform basic mathematical calculations, and recognize and respond to irregular or upset situations and conditions.

THE CATCH
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to learn and become knowledgeable regarding barges, railcars, terminal equipment, and procedures to transfer bulk liquids. Examples of terminal equipment include piping systems, pumps, storage tanks, gauging and loading/unloading equipment, product hoses, valves, barges, and laboratory equipment.
- Ability to become an Operator Qualified (OQ) person and to obtain and maintain a valid TWIC Card in accordance with Department of Homeland Security and TSA.
- Maintain current, valid Coast Guard licenses and documents authorizing Person-In-Charge status for the transfer of petroleum and other dangerous liquids.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
- Pulls, pushes and/or lifts a variety of equipment and parts requiring forces up to 100 pounds. Lifting may occur in awkward positions while working in cramped quarters.
- Work may be performed in a shop environment, dock, and on tugboats and barges as job duties require. May be exposed to loud operating machinery, inclement weather conditions, working around water, slip/fall hazards, electrical and mechanical hazards, foreign body hazards, chemicals, vapors and dust and fumes.
