We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Assistant to support both our Unitarian Universalist Religious Education program for kindergarten through 6th grade and our Child Care program for crawlers through kindergarten. This position involves assisting in both areas, stepping in to lead activities when primary staff members are absent, and being available for on-call evening childcare as your schedule allows.
Key Responsibilities:
Religious Education Assistance:
Assist in the Religious Education program, supporting the primary teacher and engaging children in lessons and activities.
Step in to lead educational activities and manage the classroom when the primary Religious Education Teacher is absent.
Help maintain a supportive and inclusive environment that reflects Unitarian Universalist values.
Child Care Assistance:
Provide attentive care for infants, toddlers, and young children in the Child Care program, supporting their safety and developmental needs.
Step in to lead childcare activities and manage the space when the primary Child Care Provider is absent.
Foster a welcoming and stimulating environment that supports children’s growth and well-being.
Assistant Responsibilities:
Rotate between the religious education and childcare settings, offering support and ensuring smooth operations as needed.
Adapt to various roles and responsibilities based on current staffing needs and program demands.
Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of rooms
Hours:
Sundays from 10:15 am to 12:00 pm
Extended hours on Sundays when there are events following the service
Additional hours available for on-call evening childcare during congregational events or other activities as your schedule allows.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, with familiarity across both age groups.
Knowledge of Unitarian Universalist principles is beneficial, with a commitment to creating an inclusive environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and staff.
Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and adapt to changing needs.
Background check clearance and CPR/First Aid certification required.
Preferred Skills:
Previous experience in a Unitarian Universalist congregation or similar setting.
Understanding of early childhood development and educational best practices.
Flexibility and willingness to work varied hours, including being available for on-call evening childcare as your schedule permits.
