The Operations team at the Non-GMO Project is all about keeping the Non-GMO Project plane flying. From recruiting to policymaking, finance to legal, business intelligence to facility management, everything we do comes from the belief that the wellbeing of our people matters, the integrity of our systems is critical, and the smooth running of this plane is paramount. What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for candidates who have a knack for design and user experience as well as expertise in optimizing back-end systems. As we overhaul our websites and applications, this role will play an integral part in leading and implementing the website redesign. This work will enhance the user experience for our clients, stakeholders, partners, and the public.
Who You Are
Proficient in front-end languages HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript
Experienced with back-end languages and applications such as PHP/Laravel
Experienced working with graphic designers and converting designs/wireframes to code
Proficient in building custom WordPress templates, editing sites in WordPress, and utilizing advanced custom fields
Strong understanding of the entire web development lifecycle (design, development, deployment, and maintenance)
Familiarity with API testing platforms such as ReadyAPI
Motivated and passionate about working in a mission-driven organization
Independently able to manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency, attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
A self-starter who is internally motivated to solve problems and take initiative
Able to effectively collaborate in a team environment
Eager to learn new systems, software, methodologies, etc.
Adaptable to change

Areas of Responsibility
Write maintainable and reusable code
Debug issues and implement fixes
Design, develop, maintain, test, and troubleshoot web API performance (SOAP, REST)
Gather continuous feedback from users, customers, and colleagues
Advise the marketing team on website opportunities and supporting implementation with the digital agencies
Own functionality and performance of multiple branded websites across all development stages, from new build to maintenance
Manage and scale hosting services with WPEngine
Manage back-end databases and applications for web development
Test and optimize websites, code, and assets for speed and scalability over multiple devices and browsers
Write technical documentation
Experience You Bring
We place a high value on lived experience coupled with professional experience
3+ years experience coding with front-end programming languages HTML/CSS/JavaScript
3+ years of experience working with WordPress and related technologies
1+ year experience coding with back-end languages such as PHP, Laravel framework
Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks like AngularJS, React, Vue.JS
Solid understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and known solutions
Understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
Experience with databases used for web development such as MySQL
An interest in food systems, the natural products industry, or the GMO issue
