Job Title: Van Conversion Tech
Reports to: Custom Director
Location: Port Townsend, Washington
Job Summary
Camp N Car is looking for a skilled and versatile Van Conversion Technician to help craft world-class camper conversions across a wide range of vehicles. From spacious Sprinter vans to compact car campers, this role offers hands-on involvement in creating high-quality, custom homes on wheels from start to finish.
While carpentry is a key focus of this position, the Van Conversion Technician will also contribute to other essential tasks, including system installations, exterior modifications, and inventory management. Building camper vans requires a diverse skill set, and this role offers the opportunity to engage in various aspects of the process, ensuring each build meets Camp N Car’s exceptional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Custom Shop team on diverse projects, including full van conversions, car camper builds, RV renovations, and more, bringing creativity and craftsmanship to every build.
- Design and fabricate a wide range of wood furniture and interior components, such as cabinetry, bed platforms, storage solutions, trim pieces, and paneling, ensuring each piece meets high-quality standards.
- Manage the procurement of parts and hardware for van conversions, keeping the shop well-stocked with essential materials like fasteners, lumber, and specialty components.
- Assist in installing 12V power systems, including wiring, solar panel mounting, and occasional work on basic plumbing and propane infrastructure, ensuring all systems function seamlessly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient conversion shop, while supporting administrative tasks like inventory management and purchasing.
- Accurately track and report time and material expenses for each project to maintain transparency and efficiency.
- Quickly adapt to new tasks and installation techniques for van builds, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and skill development.
-Contribute ideas to improve project designs, enhance workflow processes, and help elevate the quality and efficiency of Camp N Car’s operations.
Requirements
The ideal Van Conversion Technician will have a solid background in professional finish carpentry or cabinetry and excel in a variety of fabrication tasks. While an understanding of 12V electrical and off-grid systems is highly desirable, carpentry experience and the ability to be efficient in carrying out quality work is the biggest priority.

Compensation & Benefits
- Starting pay ranges between $25 - $30 an hour depending on experience
- Pay after 1-2 years has the potential to increase to $30 - $35 an hour

Schedule
- 4-day work weeks with the potential to increase to 5-day work weeks if desired.
- Work days start at 9:00 AM and end at 5:00 PM with unpaid lunch and paid breaks.
