Overview:
A unique opportunity to start a cattle ranch from scratch. We are looking for a hardworking and dedicated ranch manager that will establish and oversee the day-to-day operations of a large diverse cattle ranch along the Snake River in Washington. This position is responsible for the overall health, productivity, and profitability of the ranch. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in ranch management, strong organizational skills, and a deep understanding of livestock care, pasture management, and agricultural practices.
Responsibilities:
Livestock Management: Oversee the health, breeding, feeding, and general welfare of all livestock. Ensure herd health through effective vaccination and veterinary care programs. Monitor grazing patterns and manage livestock rotation to sustain pasture health. Also will have a part in acquiring the cattle to run on the property.
Land and Pasture Management: Develop and implement sustainable land-use practices to improve soil health, pasture productivity, and water resource conservation. Plan and manage pasture seeding and weed control.
Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise ranch hands and seasonal workers. Develop work schedules, provide hands-on training, and ensure safe working conditions.
Maintenance and Equipment Management: Ensure all ranch equipment and facilities are in good working order. Coordinate repairs, upkeep, and replacement of machinery, fencing, and other infrastructure.
Financial Management and Reporting: Prepare and manage the ranch budget, track expenses, and ensure cost-effective use of resources. Maintain accurate records of livestock, grazing schedules, land use, and equipment maintenance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 5 years of ranch management experience, preferably on a large-scale property.
Strong knowledge of livestock health, animal husbandry, pasture management, and irrigation.
Mechanical aptitude with experience in operating and maintaining ranch equipment.
Proven ability to manage budgets, resources, and staff effectively.
Knowledge of local and federal environmental and agricultural regulations.
