Ready to lead?The Azure Policy Engine Team is hiring a Principle Software Engineer to redefine and evolve the foundation of Azure Compute. In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing and building foundational change management solutions that enable customer workloads of all types (e.g. stateless, stateful, cloud native, lift and shift, AI/ML, etc.) to run reliably on Azure at a scale of millions of servers and billions of changes.As a Principal Software Engineer you will be joining a talented team that invests in our people and technology for the long term. Partners with appropriate stakeholders spanning across teams and orgs to determine project requirements
Leads the design and architecture of change management features and services in AzureCompute
Identifies dependencies and authors design documents for features and services.
Leverages expertise with appropriate stakeholders to develop project plans, release plans, and work items.
Develops high quality, extensible, maintenable code and coaches others to do the same.
Supports livesite as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C, C# or Java
OR equivalent experience.
4+ years of experienceleading the design and development ofcritical distributed systems components
OR 2+ years of experience leading the design and developmentof critical distributed systems components AND 2+ years leading the design and development of critical operating system, networking, storage, database, or securitycomponents.
1+ years of experiencebuilding production software in C, C, or Rust
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional / Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
OR related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C, Rust, C#, Java
OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C, Rust, C#, Java
OR equivalent experience.
Experience with concurrency, fault tolerance, or data replication
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
