• The role requires handling in-person, hands-on work with virtual reality headsets, optical measurement equipment, and optical simulators

Top 3:
1 Computational modelling of visual processes (Python & Unity)
2 Expertise in binocular human vision
3 Experience designing and conducting user studies with human participants

2+ years of exp in the role
• Research published in high-impact journals and international conference presentations or publications
• Comp Sci., Optometry or Experimental Psychology Bachelors (vision science) with Masters minimum, PhD desirable
The main function of this research scientist position is to conduct logical analyses of technical problems related to visual perception and display artifacts-namely optical distortion. Specifically, this role will involve formulating novel experimental paradigms to derive empirical data that will provide guidance for design and/or engineering solutions.
Job Responsibilities:
• Derive novel experimental and modeling approaches to evaluate the impact of spatial-temporal artifacts from near-eye display systems on visual quality, comfort and overall user experience.
• Apply theoretical expertise and innovation to create new models of visual perception that are related to these artifacts.
• Evaluate and improve the predictive power of models.
• Plan, develop and deploy methods and procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying empirical and simulation data.
• Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
• Analyze simulation and empirical data to evaluate the results of experiments.
• Identify and resolve problems in optical simulations and empirical study designs.
• Consult with users, management, vendors, and technicians to determine simulation and hardware requirements to conduct the research.
• Regularly communicate the findings from modeling, psychophysics, & empirical experiments in the form of internal white papers and external academic publications to help set target requirements for display systems in AR/VR.
