We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.Job Summary:In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met.Part-Time Telework: This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project. #LI-TN1Major Responsibilities:

The primary role of the Mechanical Designer is meeting with engineers to establish requirements for new or existing mechanical designs.

Perform work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and appropriate 2-D and 3-D computer-aided design and computer-aided engineering tools (SolidWorks, PDM, MicroStation).

Create designs in accordance with client, company, and industry standards.

Communicate design concepts and requirements using Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

Create 3-D models of mechanical equipment and originate drawing packages for detail designs and/or design proposals.

Lead and participate in Design Reviews that demonstrate design functionality and the implementation of requirements.

Solicit feedback and disposition comments, from internal and external stakeholders, related to impacts on design.

Active participation in design activity planning by establishing interim milestones and related time to completion estimates.

A desire to drive schedule without sacrificing quality by planning carefully and maintaining continuous communication.

Attend weekly meetings to discuss progress, schedule, and roadblocks.

Perform in a highly collaborative environment where all team members participate in resolving design challenges.

Maintain continuous personal and professional development while also contributing to the development of the team.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechanical Technology, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)

Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

High proficiency using SolidWorks to create 3-D models and related drawing packages.

Perform and lead Design Reviews that facilitate collaboration and result in high quality designs.

Comprehend and effectively implement project requirements for applicable WTP Mechanical Handling Designs.

Familiar with regulations and industry codes and standards affecting complex engineering work within discipline.

Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
