The Golden Lab in the Department of Biological Structure has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Scientist/Engineer 1. The Golden Lab focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms and circuits guiding motivated social behavior using rodent models, with a special interest in aggression reward, addiction and depression. We use chemogenetics, optogenetics, calcium imaging, whole-mount light-sheet fluorescent microscopy and machine-learning approaches. Overview: The Research Scientist 1 will perform routine scientific work evaluating, selecting, and applying standardized scientific procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives; assignments require investigation of a limited number of variables and few complex features. Requires work experience acquired at the technician level, or appropriate undergraduate level study. RESPONSIBILITIES: Major duties, under the guidance of the PI and senior postdoctoral researchers: Transgenic and wild-type mice colony management, including breeding and genotyping Assistance with writing and maintaining lab protocols, licenses and databases/websites Procurement and organization of lab supplies and inventory management Maintenance of vivarium and bench lab spaces Direction received: Works under direct and indirect supervision to complete assigned tasks/projects, demonstrating the ability to work independently. Supervisor screens assignments for unusual or difficult problems and selects techniques and procedures to be applied on non-routine work. Receives close supervision on new aspects of assignments. Responsibility for directing others: May guide the work of peers, technicians, or other support staff as necessary to achieve specific assignments. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three months to one year of experience in a related area; some or all may be in relevant educational programs. Must be knowledgeable about mice handling, and previous mouse experience is strongly preferred. Incumbents with previous experience breeding and genotyping mouse colonies will be given preference. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED: Familiarity with R, Matlab or Python is desirable, but not required. An interest and willingness to learn new methods is desirable. Good communicator, responsible and creative in solving problems. Ability to work with people from different cultures and scientific disciplines. In this role, you will use your experience in the development of on-board Guidance, Navigation, and Control technologies to drive technical innovation and solve complex challenges. Collaborate with other subsystem and spacecraft systems engineers to define GN&C boundaries and interfaces. Support the definition, development, and execution of simulations and tools required for verification of functionalities. Support verification and testing, ensuring the GN&C subsystem complies to its requirements. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of a B.S. in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineeringor related field. 5 years of design experience focused on development of spacecraft GN&C. Demonstrated experience in development, implementation, and testing of GN&C algorithms on aerospace vehicles. Experience developing requirements, interfaces,tradesand analyses for GN&C applications. Proven experience in modeling and simulation. Familiarity with flight management, guidance, control, navigation, and astrodynamics fundamentals. Experience inMatlab/Simulink/Stateflow. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications M.S. or PhD in aerospace engineering or related technical field. Experience in Rendezvous, Proximity, and Docking (RPO/D) CONOPS, algorithms, trajectories, rendezvous points, safety gates and corridors, and requirements for performing RPOD operations. Experience in full lifecycle development of GN&C and/or Autonomy on spacecraft including integrated tests in high-fidelity environments. Experience designing, evaluating, and simulating state machines. Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA. Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $125,400-$175,560 Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $136,800-$191,520
