SYNOPSIS SUMMARY:

La Conner Maritime Service is a full-service boat yard with a well-established reputation, employee and customer base. We strive to create an exceptional experience for our customers while providing services for their recreational and commercial vessels. We have been in business since 1978, and located in La Conner since 1992.

Our capabilities include vessel haul outs to 110 tons, and the ability to provide a variety of related services. We are a dealer for several high-quality brands, including Volvo Penta and Suzuki Marine, with a focus on services we perform well. The most important resource is our team of highly-skilled and capable technicians and support staff, who work collaboratively to ensure each customer and project is taken care of. Our project manager plays an important role in helping this team work together.

The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, organizing, controlling, communicating to the assigned team so that the execution of work order is accomplished in an efficient and profitable manner. To accomplish this the Project Manager needs to develop a strong understanding of the expected results as specified by the work order, the contract and the customer, and work with available resources to achieve this.

Specific Duties

1. Provide oversight and supervision to the project’s team.

2. Continually inspect all work-in-progress to ensure that quality standards and contract specifics are being met.

3. Responsible for the creation of the project schedule

4. Controlling and communicating the project’s schedule to team.

5. Ensure profitability of the project as determined in the project’s budget.

6. Work with other department managers, foremen and project leads to ensure efficient personnel allocation as specified by the project’s schedule.

7. Log details and notes from customer conversations regarding project needs; maintain personal system for tracking “to-do” items.

8. Oversee creation of work orders for change orders.

9. Assist with preparation of estimates and quotes for new projects and change orders as needed.

10. Manage change orders and additional work requests.

11. Communicate effectively and professionally with customers (in person, via phone, email, or other written correspondence) regarding project status, (progress, delays, etc.) as needed.

12. Work with Admin Assistant, Paint Shop/Yard manager, Service Manager, in scheduling facilities, equipment, and other needed resources.

13. Review work orders for accuracy and completeness during, and at the completion of work; delegate changes & updates to Admin Assistant as necessary.

14. Review and analyze project Profit and Loss reports;

15. Ensure techs’ time cards are accurate and complete.

16. Coordinate with Safety and Compliance person to insure environmental and safety compliance for assigned jobs,

17. Perform other, related duties as needed and/or assigned.

Essential Skills

1. Strong understanding of construction methods and systems used in marine industry, on vessels up to 60 feet

2. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel (basic spreadsheet creation and use)

3. Ability to learn and use other software systems as needed

4. Follow generally accepted professional etiquette and protocol for all verbal, written, and email communication

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Ten (10) years in a directly related field of work.

Personnel management in a production setting

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE RECOMMENDED:

Navigating and boat handling experience.

Understanding of shop tools and processes

Commercial fishing or related marine background or experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

20/20 eye sight or correctable

Able to lift or move 50 - 70 Lb.

Able to stand for long periods of time

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed both indoors (90%) and outdoors (10%). During spring and summer the work environment may be high paced and stressful.
