Located in the fertile Skagit Valley of Washington State, Skagit Farmers Supply has served the local agricultural community since 1934. As a local co-operative the company provides farmers, homeowners, businesses, families and the communities in the Pacific Northwest with products & services through Agronomy, Energy, Retail and Wholesale & Milling operations.

The companys Agronomy division is searching for class A or B commercial drivers (CDL) to deliver granular & liquid fertilizer, crop protection and other agricultural products to locations in northwest Washington (local deliveries only). This position is seasonal and typically lasts until June, and likely into July and August. Permanent placement for driving positions in the companys energy, agronomy or wholesale divisions is not guaranteed; however, first consideration is given to internal applicants as positions may become available. Hours per week will vary based upon weather conditions that influence the local growing season. Candidates should be flexible and detail oriented with a great attitude while ensuring excellent customer service at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Driving straight truck (typically dual axle, 10 “ 13 speed vehicles) to deliver bulk and bagged fertilizer in the local area (no over-the-road deliveries)

Preparing fertilizer for shipment

Safely operating a forklift

Providing the general upkeep of vehicles and the premises

Maintaining a safe and clean working environment and equipment while adhering to OSHA, state and federal safety regulations

Exhibit an ability to get along with others

Practice punctual and reliable attendance

Perform other duties as required

Ideal candidates will possess a high level of initiative, discretion and independent judgment, with a can-do attitude and the ability to multi-task. One who can see things that need to be done and figure out a way to do them effectively and efficiently.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Possess a valid class A or B commercial driver license (CDL) and Medical Examiners Certificate

High school diploma (or equivalent), or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities with an emphasis on correctly calculating figures and amounts

Commitment to excellence & high standards especially in terms of providing excellent customer service

Physical ability to lift, carry, push and pull 60 pounds (minimum) weight requirements

Professional appearance and demeanor

Proven track record of being safe, dependable and reliable

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with co-workers and customers for safety purposes

Strong organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and analytical skills

Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment

Ability to follow directions verbally, written and on maps

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Possess CDL tanker and hazardous materials endorsements

Previous experience operating commercial vehicles with a DOT-regulated employer

Experience operating agricultural equipment and/or working on or around a farm environment

Experience safely operating forklifts, small engines and/or various hand and power tools

HOURS / DAYS / SCHEDULE

Employees will be expected to work primarily Monday through Friday with some weekends required. In times of high demand, hours to be worked may exceed 40 hours per week.
