BR&T is looking for a Mid-level Materials and Process Metals Machining Engineer based out of Auburn, Washington to join our BR&T MMT Machining team to support Metal Machining/Manufacturing process development and optimization for R&D (research and development) and the production environment within BCA (Boeing Commercial Airplanes), BDS (Boeing Defense, Space, and Security), and BGS (Boeing Global Services).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Define and manage machining experiments through the lab; coordinate with Lab Technician to manage budgets, lab operations and administrative tasks
  • Utilize test data for analysis and resolution; recommend and implement appropriate course of action, as needed
  • Interact with external research partners for both BCA, BDS and BGS; work with various Boeing manufacturing business units for technology development and transitions
  • Engage with various International consortia's to guide and collaborate in research
  • Support various machining related issues to support BCA and Boeing enterprise: problem solving - root cause and corrective action, running design of experiments
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application to business needs and integrating new technologies as appropriate
  • Keep up to date with current technical development in machining and associated technologies to identify possible applications for further development
  • Compose and submit white papers to various consortiums, government agencies and Industry partners for new technology research and business development
  • Build technical and business network to enhance Boeing's technical advantage
  • Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products
  • Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
  • Promotes standardization across business activities
  • Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
  • Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas


This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience with metals fabrication and machining
  • 3+ years of experience with Mechanical Structural design or analysis
  • 3+ years of experience with Conventional and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines
  • 3+ years of experience with CAD/CAM software packages (preferred CATIA, Vericut simulation, MasterCAM)
  • 3+ years of experience with experimental data acquisition, instrumentation, and analysis
  • 2+ years of experience operating machine shop equipment


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor/Master with experience or a Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering - Vibrations/Dynamics, Manufacturing Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Experience with Metal cutting theory and practices
  • Experience with Mechanical design, structural dynamics theory and practices
  • Experience with mechanical/physical measurement tools, data analysis, and data acquisition systems development
  • Experience working hand-on in a machining laboratory and/or machine shop
  • Experience with Data Analytics and Machine Learning
  • Experience with Metallic materials
  • Experience with performing Finite Element Analysis for mechanical structures
  • Experience with Software programming and development
  • Experience with NC Programming
  • Experience with Gear Technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication / reporting and interpersonal skills


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
