North 40 Outfitters in the greater Spokane and Coeur d'Alene area,is looking to hire aFull-Time Salaried Safety Specialistto join our team.We believe that each team member plays a vital role in the success of our company. We are looking for authentic and enthusiastic people who love our lifestyle and believe in service before self.As aSafety Specialistat North 40, the primary purpose of the role is to enhance, develop, direct, implement, and manage North 40’s occupational safety and health program, policies, and procedures to promote and ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. This position will champion a culture of safety across all levels of the organization through hands on training, leadership, collaboration, and inspections. Identify areas of improvement, suggest action, and implement change. Directs and influences all levels and departments of the organization as it relates to occupational safety and health processesThis full-time position will be based out of our Spokane/Coeur d'Alene region and requires the ability to work during the business hours of 8am-5pm M-F up to 50+ hours per week, which will include working extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Travel is required 50% or more of the time to be spent in our store locations.RESPONSIBILITIES:Program Management:

Enhance, design, and implement safety and health programs, procedures, and policies.

Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure alignment of programs and processes to regulatory requirements.

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, rules, and codes.

Build and champion a culture of safety across all store locations and facilities to increase engagement at all levels and drive results.

Participate in and lead accident investigations and/or emergency responses.

Recognize enterprise and industry wide trends and work collaboratively to develop and implement solutions across entire organization.

Liaise with Human Resources, Wellness, Store Support Group, Risk, Loss Prevention, store management and safety coordinators.

Conduct walk-through inspections and audits to identify potential safety issues and assess employee compliance.

Conduct risk assessments to minimize workplace accidents, injuries, illnesses, and health hazards.

Address and resolve occupational safety and health concerns within all facilities.

Facilitate regulatory visits.

Evaluate the organization’s safety program, identify areas of improvement, and implement changes in conjunction with stakeholders.

Assist departments with inspections from the Department of Labor and Industries and self-audits for the company’s safety programs.

Assist with administrative appeals of Department of Labor and Industries citations.

Maintain safety manual and records pertaining to employee safety training and testing.

Training:

Organize and conduct training in all occupational safety and health areas.

Provide personnel with safety training sessions, emergency protocol, and proper use of safety equipment.

Produce safety education, to include recaps and broadcasts, safety meetings, and newsletters/videos, and safety promotions.

Coordinate with Training & Development / Leadership to deliver ongoing training for safety programs, processes, and initiatives.

Analytics and Reporting:

Ensure completion of all required OSHA / Washington State Labor and Industry recordkeeping and reporting.

Analyze safety and risk data to identifying trends to take appropriate actions in facilitating training and change management to accomplish desired outcomes.

Act as the subject matter expert in the Retrospective Rating incentive program offered by Washington state L & I. Analyze workers compensation claim data to identify trends, propose solutions, and capitalize on program.

Monitor North 40’s EMR / MOD rating on an ongoing basis. Recommend improvements where needed.

Manage the company’s safety reporting and communicate key findings to strategic partners.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education:

Bachelor’s degree path:

Graduate from an accredited four-year college or university in a field of study related to safety engineering, safety administration, industrial hygiene, or occupational health.

Two years of professional experience in safety planning, programming, coordination, or administration is preferred.

Valid driver’s license or otherwise demonstrated ability to get to and from multiple work locations as required.

Associate degree path:

Graduate from an accredited two-year college or university in a field of study related to safety engineering, safety administration, industrial hygiene, or occupational health.

Five years of professional experience in safety planning, programming, coordination, or administration is preferred.

Valid driver’s license or otherwise demonstrated ability to get to and from multiple work locations as required.

Certification:

Certification in 1 or more of the following is preferred: CSP, CIH, CFPS, CHMM, GSP, ASP, OHST or CLCS.

Knowledge, skill, and ability:

Sufficient knowledge of safety programs applicable to a retail or similar environment / operation.

Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.

Demonstrated training skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Strong collaborator with ability to build relationships.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Influential leader with skills to motivate others in order to achieve objectives.

Organizational skills with attention to detail.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing several projects simultaneously within set deadlines.

High level of responsiveness and ability to adapt to change.

Analytical skills with the ability to collect and analyze information, problem solve, and make decisions.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion regarding employee and company information/data.

Physical Requirements:

Specific lifting abilities required by this job: occasionally up to 25 pounds.

Regularly required to: sit; use hands in repetitive motions to type, file, grasp, handle or feel; and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to: stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift or reach with hands and arms. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency.

Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary.
