Medical Records Clerk

Description The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for offering support to the Health Information Management department and outpatient sites through the organization, evaluation, and execution of medical records requests. The individual must also maintain patient medical records in compliance with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and healthcare system regulatory requirements.Core tasks include the processing of telephone and faxed medical record requests, compiling printouts, gathering reports, and documenting all incoming and outgoing items. Serving in a high volume call answering capacity, the individual will ensure complete and timely customer service to patients and providers and comply diligently with department protocols and HIPAA standards to ensure the safeguarding of information.Key Responsibilities:1) Retrieval of patient medical records for providers, other medical personnel, and patients.2) Utilization of electronic systems to retrieve previous images and reports for patient appointments.3) Maintenance of the security and confidentiality of medical records to ensure HIPAA compliance.4) Efficient handling of high volume phone calls to meet department expectations.5) Management of Information Release (ROI) in accordance with state and HIPAA guidelines.6) Assurance of work flow continuity by documenting and communicating actions, abnormalities, and ongoing needs.7) Accurate preparation of paperwork for image interpretation, including locating previous examinations and reports when necessary.9) Thorough review of records for completeness and accuracy in compliance with company policies and state and HIPAA guidelines.10) Systematic tracking of medical record discs, reports, films, and other medical records.In summary, the successful candidate will be an integral part of a dynamic, customer-focused team, capable of meeting the demands of a fast-paced administrative environment.Requirements High school diploma or GED required, Associates degree preferred. Previous imaging medical records experience preferred. Minimum 1 year of recent, related experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
