Timmons Group is seeking a Land Development Practice Leader to lead, grow, and shape our Land Development presence in the Washington, DC market. You will have meaningful influence over strategy, staffing, culture, and client engagement while partnering with firm leadership to expand our footprint in a competitive and dynamic market.As the Land Development Practice Leader, you will serve as both a business leader and technical authority, with responsibility for growing the practice and mentoring the next generation of engineers.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:Practice & Business LeadershipLead the growth and strategic direction of the Land Development practice in the Washington, DC officeDevelop and expand client relationships; serve as a trusted advisor to public and private sector clientsDrive business development efforts, including market positioning, pursuit strategy, and proposal leadershipMaintain ownership of project financial performance, including scope, schedule, staffing, and profitabilityCollaborate with firm leadership to identify growth opportunities and support long-term office expansionTeam & Culture BuildingRecruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and designersProvide coaching and technical oversight while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive cultureSet clear expectations and support career development for staff at multiple experience levelsTechnical & Project LeadershipProvide technical guidance and quality oversight on land development projectsSupport design efforts using Civil 3D and related modeling tools as neededEnsure projects comply with state and local jurisdictional requirementsOversee preparation of plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimatesMaintain strong coordination between clients, internal teams, and external stakeholdersSkills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)Professional Engineer (P.E.) or similar licensure preferred15+ years of experience in civil engineering with a strong background in public or private land developmentDemonstrated success in business development, client management, and team leadershipStrong understanding of project accounting, budgeting, and multi-project resource managementExperience supervising and mentoring technical staffWorking knowledge of standard engineering and office softwareA leadership mindset marked by professionalism, accountability, and collaborationWhy This Role?This is more than a project management position—it’s an opportunity to lead an engineering practice, influence office growth, and leave a lasting mark on a major market.
