Job Summary
To perform advanced level mechanical repair and maintenance work on light/heavy duty gasoline and diesel-powered mobile equipment. Provide supervision of other shop employees, prioritize, and assign tasks, as well as scheduling and managing repair strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential
- Plan, coordinate and supervise maintenance and repair activities with the Shop/Equipment Manager.
- Perform overhaul, tune-up, and repair work on gas/diesel engines, mobile and stationary hydraulics, transmissions, differentials, air/hydraulic brake systems and 12/24 volt DC electrical systems.
- Perform role of Shop Manager when absent.
- Assists other technicians in proper diagnosis and repair of equipment.
- Work with vendors in identifying and ordering proper parts in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Completes preventative maintenance requirements such as oil, filter, lube and grease for rolling stock including feed trucks, tractors, and other heavy equipment.
- Identify and anticipate needed parts and supplies for each job.
- Ability to weld, fabricate, and modify parts and equipment.
- Complete work orders on all repairs detailing parts, work completed, and time spent on repairs. And review subordinates work orders for accuracy.
- Reviews daily vehicle equipment inspection forms to prioritize, schedule and assign repairs.
- Maintain shop appearance with routine housekeeping.
- Complies with all applicable safety rules and policies.
- Assist the other crews with maintenance issues when needed (Feeding, Mill, Hospital, Processing)

Qualifications
- Five years knowledge of vehicle mechanics and heavy equipment including diesel engines.
- Knowledge and experience with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, welding and computer diagnostic.
- Ability to utilize precision tools for diagnosis and repair.
- Basic knowledge of email; Spreadsheet software and Database software.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must be able to drive and operate equipment (trucks, loaders, tractors, etc.)
- Must be responsible and trustworthy
- Flexibility to work longer than normal schedule (earlier or later), and provide after hours coverage for breakdowns, and be on-call when scheduled.
- Excellent safety skills and awareness needed
- Must be a team player

Person subject to both inside & outside weather conditions including extreme cold, heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oil, and may have to wear a respirator in certain instances
