$36.71 - per hour

Lineman Apprentice Trainee

Join our team at Chelan County Public Utility District. As one of the largest hydroelectric generating utilities in the Northwest, our mission at Chelan PUD is to improve the quality of life for the thousands of people who call our pristine desert and mountain community home.

Overview

This position is intended to lead to an apprenticeship where the incumbent will need to follow the guidelines set forth by the Apprenticeship Committee in accordance with the JATC and the Washington State Apprenticeship Council. This position will be expected to follow all District Safety Rules and Policies, maintain above average grades in Apprentices classes and studies and maintain a meets expectation with his monthly evaluations by his peers. This position will work through the steps necessary to become a Journeyman lineman, and work under the supervision of a journeyman lineman/Foreman or Operation Manager/ Superintendent.

Responsibilities

- Perform construction and maintenance tasks in a safe and efficient manner under the supervision of a Distribution Superintendent or Journeyman / Foreman Lineman.

- Be willing to learn and understand all phases of District electrical construction standards and practices.

- Learn and understand District operating instructions.

- Attend training as required and other duties as assigned.

- Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

- As an essential function, drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.

Qualifications

Education

Equivalent experience (year for year) may substitute for required education.

- No post-secondary education is required.

Experience

- 1 year of experience in general construction or a related field is required.

Skills and Abilities

A fully skilled incumbent will have the following knowledge skills & abilities:

- Knowledge of apprenticeship guidelines and ability to advance into the JATC apprenticeship program.

- Knowledge of District Safety Rules and Policies.

- Requires ability and desire to train through the apprenticeship program to become a journey-level Lineman.

- Requires ability to work with hand tools and on or around man lift equipment.

- Requires good intrapersonal skills and ability to get along with others.

- To perform this job successfully, an individual must have capability to learn the use of personal and/or laptop computers.

- An individual is required to have knowledge of heavy line equipment including line trucks, bucket trucks, and backhoes; and power equipment including hand tools, power tools, and wire pulling equipment.

- Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.

Drug Screening

Drug screening prior to position entry is required for the following reason(s):

- Drives or operates motorized vehicles for purposes of transporting passengers, including other employees (occasional driving of a District passenger vehicle is not a Safety Sensitive job duty)

- Drives or operates heavy machinery, or uses rotating or heavy equipment, or power machines or tools in the vicinity of the public or other employees

- Works with, in, on, or near distribution or transmission lines or equipment in a manner that can impact the safe flow or distribution of electricity or water, or otherwise create imminent harm to the public or other employees, such as flooding, fire or explosions

Licenses and Certifications

- Valid Driver's License at hire and WA Driver's License within 30 days of hire required

- CDL Airbrake Restriction Removed with medical card Upon Hire required

- CDL Tanker Endorsement within 60 Days required

- CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation with Valid First Aid Card within 180 Days required

- Flagger Certification within 180 Days required
