Stoughton Health has an excellent opportunity for a Pre-Anesthesia Testing RN (PAT RN) to join our Surgical Services team on a Full-Time basis.

The Pre-Anesthesia Testing RN (PAT RN) is responsible for conducting comprehensive nursing assessments and coordinating necessary preoperative testing and education for patients scheduled for elective surgeries or procedures. This role ensures patients are medically optimized for anesthesia and surgery, identifies and manages risks, and facilitates a safe and timely preoperative journey.

Essential Functions:

Perform detailed pre-anesthesia assessments, including health history, medications, allergies, past anesthesia experiences, and comorbidities.

Review laboratory, diagnostic, and specialist test results for completeness and clinical relevance.

Identify abnormal findings or high-risk conditions and escalate to anesthesia or surgical teams.

Collaborate with anesthesia providers to determine appropriate anesthesia plans and pre-op instructions.

Educate patients and families about surgical preparations.

Answer patient questions and provide reassurance or clarification regarding the surgical process.

Familiar with EPIC

Knowledge of national preoperative fasting, antimicrobial prophylaxis, and optimization guidelines

Position Requirements:

Required: Associate’s Degree in Nursing

Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Registered Nursing

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

Currently licensed by the Board of Licensing and Regulation in the State of Wisconsin as a Registered Nurse in good standing

Required: 2 – 5 years of experience in clinical nursing, preferably in perioperative care, pre-op, or critical care.

Required Certification: BLS and ACLS certificates within 90 days of hire

Non-violent crisis intervention or workplace violence training every two years on a rolling calendar

Computer Competency: Basic Computer Skills are expected for this position. Access email, reference internal websites, access electronic health records, and use online learning tools to remain current with continuing education requirements.

Microsoft Office Suite Skills: Beginning Skills – Able to perform basic things such as opening a document, change font, save a document, write a letter.

Work Shift:

Full-Time, 1.0 FTE

40 hours per week

Scheduled Days: Monday - Friday

Scheduled Shift: 9:00 am – 5:30 pm
