Hello, we are seeking a licensed Phlebotomist for a full-time position at FCI Oxford, working with the Federal Inmate population.
HOURS: 8 hour shift Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), between the hours of 0600-1600, with a 30 minute unpaid lunch period, not to exceed 40 hours per week.
Education and Experience
You must have valid certification to practice as a Phlebotomist. The employee must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
You must provide proof of experience with specimen collection, packaging and shipment to referral laboratories with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records and proof of experience. Additional experience should be outlined as it relates to collection of testing as it relates to COVID-19.
You must provide a resume and requested documentation along with copy of all diplomas and/or certificates to support stated qualification at time of award for credentialing and for security clearances and vouchering purposes.
The employee will complete mandatory training as required by the institution and health services department.
Description of Duties
The employee will provide Phlebotomy Services in a method commensurate with the local community. These services, although not directly supervised, will be reviewed by a physician on staff at the institution. The performance of these services will also be verified by the designated (COR).
The employee will be responsible for the following:
Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring the patient’s vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection and process within the Health Service Unit, to include A&O in-processing, DNA per procedure, vaccine programs and PPD updates. This will include COVID screenings.
Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or BOP Reference Lab and document per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures. Ensure that lab requests are completed properly and all reports are returned from the contract lab, provider notified, log results in as received, follow up appropriately, and
file/scan results in lab and medical record.
Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and notification of needed supplies.
Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the laboratory program.
Complete and scan into BEMR the Medical Treatment Refusal forms for any inmate that wishes to refuse laboratory testing ordered by clinical staff.
