Lovefood Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm near Stoughton, WI. We grow a wide variety of veggies and herbs which are sold to restaurants, farmers markets, grocery stores and our CSA program in and around Madison, WI. We love to grow gorgeous and healthy veggies and are looking for someone to lead our washing and packing area.
Position Summary:
The Wash/Pack Lead is responsible for day-to-day washing and packing of veggies and herbs. This entails using our existing farm systems to wash our organic veggies and herbs and pack them to order while keeping detailed wash and pack logs. In addition, this position will be responsible for leading other farm crew that are assigned to the pack shed for the day to include training, assigning tasks and providing feedback. Other duties include keeping the cooler and wash area organized and clean.
Responsibilities:
1. WASH/PACK
Receive a pack list from Farmer D
All produce is washed using appropriate methods resulting in clean, dry high quality produce
Work quickly and efficiently
Prepare tools and supplies for harvest, washing, and packing. Monitor coolers and compost pile. Wash, weigh, and inventory produce. Clean and organize packing shed.
Leads washing and packing when there are multiple people in the wash/pack area.
2. RECORD KEEPING / DATA
Works both independently and with team to ensure that proper and accurate records are being kept with regards to all wash/pack related activities
Harvest quantities for each vegetable
Order tracking for variety of customers
3. Dates and Times of Work
This position is full time
Positions will start in March/April and continue through October and potentially November.
Hours are 7:30-4 with a 30 min unpaid lunch
Days off are generally okay with prior approval but be advised that we do work holidays like July 4th, Memorial Day and Labor Day.
4. Compensation
Starting pay is $17/hr and is based on experience.
A $.50 bonus will be awarded per hour worked for each employee that works through their agreed upon time period. For example, agree to work through Sept 31st and as long as you stay, you get a $.50 bonus for every hour you’ve worked throughout the season.
A gear stipend of $100 is given at the start of the season
A box of fresh veggies is provided every week of the main season
Paid time off at a rate of 1 hr PTO per 20 hours worked
