Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Campus Planning, the Architectural Designer serves as project manager responsible for oversight of design and execution of minor and major capital construction, renovation, and planning projects as assigned. This role supports project implementation, strategic planning, collaboration with internal and external campus stakeholders, and contributes to the success of UW-Milwaukees physical environment. This position also supports the development and advancement of long-range campus planning and strategic facility planning in coordination with Campus Planning, Facilities, Planning & Management (FPM), and campus stakeholders. The position serves as an Agency Representative and Project Manager on projects of all scales. This position contributes to the development of the biennial capital budget including the preparation of cyclical documents (Capital Project Requests, Project Budget Worksheets, etc.). Excellent communication, collaboration, and coordination skills are essential. Campus Plannings primary functions are capital budget oversight, construction management, and long-range planning, all of which this position supports. The Campus Planning team works to advance UWMs missions of research and access through these guiding principles: Student Success, Inclusion & Access, Sustainability, Spatial Integrity, Responsible, Responsive Investment, Collaboration, and Data-Driven Actions.Hybrid work options may be available. Work will be performed primarily on the UW-Milwaukee campus, with requests for remote work considered after the initial training period. Specifics regarding work location requirements will be discussed during the interview process.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture or related field.Minimum of three years of related professional experience in architectural graphic conventions or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in Urban Planning, Facilities Management or related field.Registration as a licensed Architect as outlined by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services: https://dsps.wi.gov/Pages/Professions/Default.aspx.Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD or space management software.Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data and/or generate analytical reportsPrevious experience in space management and/or facilities planning in higher education.Demonstrated knowledge of relevant building codes or ADA regulations, or space utilization best practices.Evidence of excellent communication skills.
