A hybrid work arrangement (remote/in office) is currently available for this position.This position is part of a job family (Engineer/Sr Engineer) where experience will be the determining factor. Job Summary This position is responsible for developing creative and cost effective solutions for a wide range of environmental issues. They will lead projects required to implement the company's environmental strategy, advocacy, policy development, compliance programs and underlying regulatory requirements (enterprise wide or client specific), either independently or as a member of a team.The successful applicant must be able to interface with all levels of management and represented personnel, manage vendors and be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, consultants and regulators. This position requires a sound overall knowledge of local, state and federal environmental regulations, and the utility industry. Work assignments may potentially include 24x7 coverage, including emergency response or planned off-hours work. Some travel is required.Job Responsibilities
Provide environmental support to the company’s manufactured gas plant (MGP) program.
Develop and implement an overall environmental strategy for projects including upland and sediment sites including scope, overall technical design and project estimates, issue resolution and resource management.
Oversee outside environmental consultant soil, groundwater, soil vapor and sediment investigation development and execution and work with regulators to propose and implement remedial action.
Lead regulatory communications with agencies, including the USEPA, IEPA and WDNR including meetings and reporting.
Collaborate with other remediation team members in identifying opportunities to move sites forward.
Support substation environmental investigation and remediation during retirement or upgrades.
Spill response as part of the company’s Emergency Incident Response Team.
Manage activities and company’s position to support local, state and federal legislative and regulatory initiatives.
Identify, implement, and maintain key performance and process metrics to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the environmental processes, procedures, and contractors.
Lead the design, decision making and recommendation in environmental program design discussions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering.
2-5 years relevant engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of environmental remediation experience.
OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.
Project or task management experience.
Experience with site remediation under WDNR NR 700 and USEPA CERCLA regulations.
Experience with strategic soils management and remediation as part of site redevelopment.
Strong team player that can manage and contribute to several projects simultaneously.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
