Job Description
Job Title: Custodian
Effective Date: March 2019
Reports to: Building and Operation Supervisor Steve Proefrock
Status: Part time: 15-25 hours per week
Weekly work schedule: to be determined
FLSA Non exempt
Compensation $11-$14 per hour depending on experience
Job Summary
Performs tasks to ensure that the building and grounds are safe, clean and prepared for church activities, tenants and events.
Essential Tasks:
ï· Adhere to proper safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving and operating equipment.
ï· Perform daily cleaning tasks in assigned areas in and around the church building making certain that all areas of the building and grounds are maintained in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition.
ï· Set up and take down tables, chairs, etc. for events.
ï· Open the building and/or secure the building at days end.
ï· Deep clean according to need and season.
ï· Identify maintenance problems and report them to the Building and Operation Supervisor.
ï· Assure safety during inclement weather by shoveling snow, salting walkways and keeping entry areas clear.
ï· Take steps to address potential safety problems and/or report them to the Building and Operation Supervisor.
Other Responsibilities:
ï· Monitor and alert leadership of groups using the building to potential cleaning/safety problems.
ï· Support leadership of groups using the building by responding to cleaning/equipment needs.
ï· Keep cleaning equipment clean and securely stored.
ï· Participate in training provided to ensure proper use of equipment/systems.
ï· Attend a scheduled staff meeting.
ï· Participate in training sessions.
Minimum Qualifications:
ï· Able to speak, write and read English. Second language fluency is a plus.
ï· High School diploma, GED, or 1-2 years custodial experience is desired or an equivalent combination of
education and experience.
ï· Ability to organize and prioritize duties.
ï· Flexibility regarding work schedule in order to meet the needs of the church.
ï· Ability to interact and relate to members, staff, outside group members and visitors in a positive, courteous,
pleasant and helpful way.
ï· Able to work alone.
ï· Able to follow directions.
ï· Able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
ï· Reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
ï· Able to lift 50 lbs.
ï· Able to safely use and care for power equipment and small hand tools.
ï· Able to work in inclement weather conditions
ï· Able to climb and manage a step ladder.
