VISITOR SERVICES SPECIALIST
Job Description: Visitor Services Specialist
The Visitor Services Department oversees Greater Wausau Children’s Museum admission, guest experience, membership, birthday parties, and the volunteer program. The Visitor Services supports all matters related to the visitor experience. This includes: overseeing admissions, group check-in and orientation, membership sales, monitoring and addressing visitor problems and concerns, observing and monitoring on-floor activity and maintenance, retail gift shop sales, and helping to support public programs. The Visitor Services Specialist reports directly to the Visitor Services Manager or the Manager on Duty. Visitor Services staff may also support volunteers scheduled during their shift. The Visitor Services Specialist should prioritize and have experience providing the highest level of customer service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate the highest level of customer service, inclusivity, and integrity.
Support the operation of the front of house admissions area, which includes the daily admission sales, membership sales, new visitor orientation, and on-going customer service.
Support staff and volunteers to oversee visitor amenity services such as group visits and birthday parties.
Support the Retail Gift Shop sales, obtain knowledge of products sold, be able to explain features and benefits of the products to customers, maintain organization and cleanliness
Maintain accurate credit/cash-handling procedures
Inspect and monitor ("walk the floor") of the museum's facilities and exhibits to ensure that the facilities are in good condition, that cleanliness is held to the highest standard, and that visitors are properly served
Communicate needed office, janitorial, and restroom facility supply orders to the Visitor Services Manager or Floor Manager
Participate in scheduled Museum Staff meetings
Other activities as may be assigned.
General Requirements
Experience in customer service, volunteering with a non-profit organization, and/or working directly with the general public, children, and diverse families is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who are personable and have the potential to demonstrate exemplary customer service. While training and management support will be provided, the Visitor Services Specialist must possess the ability to work autonomously and with limited direction. He or she must have an ability and willingness to interact with the public. The Visitor Services Specialist is expected to contribute to a culture based upon respect, teamwork, collaboration, and inclusion. Adaptability, creativity, and a passion for bringing children, families, and the community together to learn through creative and interactive play is a must.
Reporting & Other Details
The Visitor Services Specialist reports to the Visitor Services Manager or Floor Manager. This is a part time position. Other responsibilities may be required by the Board of Directors or Executive Director to fulfill the mission and goals of the Greater Wausau Children’s Museum.
