A leading insurer are undertaking a Datacentre moves programme and require an experienced migration specialist to join the team to act as the technical lead.
This role will require a mix of hands on design work, providing QA governance of 3rd party designs and the ability to work with and across multiple technology domains/teams.
We're looking for a candidate that can add value to the planning, technical design and architectural approaches of the migration.
The ideal candidate will need:
A broad range of experience across multiple technology domains covering Networking (LAN/WAN/Edge based on Cisco technologies), Storage (Dell EMC Block & Files PMAX/Isilon/ECS), Compute HCI (Nutanix with VMware and AHV), Data Replication technologies (SRDF, RecoverPoint), Backups/Archiving (Dell EMC Avamar, Data Domains), Data Base (MS-SQL), Security controls (firewalling, security zoning segmentation, baseline security controls etc.).
A demonstrable experience in enterprise level data centre projects and migrations
An understanding of different workload migration approaches and can provide justifiable recommendations as appropriate.
An understanding of technology availability patterns, RPO/RTO, SLAs and how designs/architectures underpin these.
The ability to work with multiple domain specialist teams either internal or 3rd party across a range of topics and comfortable bringing together different teams to reach technical decisions.
An understanding of different workload migration approaches and can provide justifiable recommendations as appropriate.
Good writing skills, comfortable creating & reviewing technical designs at both a low and high level.
To be a clear communicator with the ability to present into Design Authorities or Peer Review sessions and if required lead them.
The ability to understand the overall landscape & scope of a DC migration and can document/present high level viewpoints/risks/issues into senior stakeholders.
To be comfortable being the on-point person that leadership and technical teams will look to for technology guidance and leadership.
An ideal candidate would also:
Have experience of Datacentre evaluation & selections.
Exposure to and a high level understanding of IBM mainframe and midrange systems.
Have some Microsoft Azure Fundamentals knowledge covering network connectivity, IaaS basics and an understanding of workload migrations in Azure.
Have experience working with agile based teams and understands the terminologies and ways of working.

Plan approach for H&O infrastructure builds (storage, iSeries, pSeries, HCI.)
Plan approach for Backups environments
Plan approach for TS (DB & Middleware) environments
Document all infra environment designs
Obtain SAF, Security sign-offs for infra core services and deployments
Consult with anyone needing information regarding the infra environments
Serve as infra technical SME assisting with solution designs for applications
Analyze technical specs requirements from various sources to validate hardware purchase needs
Assist with procurement of vendor partners
Coordinate for and vet bandwidth requirements
Manage vendor partner deployments/delivery
Signoff on vendor deliveries
Support application migrations front line for Infrastructure
Comms with 3rd parties on public IP changes (mainly for GlobalScape / SFTP)
