About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees. Responsibilities Perform the repair, rebuild, overhaul and testing of a variety of combat/tactical vehicles and/or combat vehicle components. Assign tasks to be performed and ensures there is adequate work to keep workers busy. Utilize a variety of diagnostic and test equipment to determine causes of vehicle malfunction. Operate test stand and console to diagnose and analyze mechanical, electrical and hydraulic functional operations. Diagnose defects and determine trade techniques to be used in accomplishing the repair and/or rebuild of a major system of combat vehicles. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common repairs, rebuilds, overhauls, and modifications to combat and tactical vehicles according to proper procedures and specifications; testing and making adjustment to correct deficiencies. I can serve as a working leader of three or more employees; pass on to other workers instructions received from supervisor; answer workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, and written instructions. I possess the ability to work without normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Work involves standing, bending, reaching, stretching, crouching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop building that is moderately heated, lighted and ventilated. Work is dirty and greasy and incumbent is subject to cuts and bruises from use of tools and equipment. Is exposed to hazards of moving equipment such as fork lifts, sweepers, etc. Wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Materiel Maintenance Management Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
