Apply Now Job Information Job Title: Engineer II-Civil Department: (Multi-Department) Reporting Relationship: Engineer Sr-Civil FLSA Status: Exempt Grade: K General Responsibilities Plan, develop, coordinate and direct engineering projects as assigned. Perform work involving conventional engineering practices but may include various complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and difficult coordination requirements. Demonstrate a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of civil engineering specialties. Essential Job Functions Perform civil engineering for capital construction and maintenance projects on pumping stations, filter plants, storage facilities, wells, reservoirs and other water works facilities and equipment; research and plan future system and facilities requirements Prepare or assist in the preparation and review of studies that determine the present load, demand, efficiency cost and condition and provide for planning to meet future demands of the overall water and systemsAssist in the design of various projects such as pumping stations, pressure-reducing stations, lift stations, major water mains and sewer lines and other improvements Assist other departments with engineering needs, including equipment, system operation, and maintenance information Coordinate and review work performed by consulting engineers and contractors Perform civil design, construction, specification, installation, repair and maintenanceDemonstrate a working knowledge of water transmission and storage applications, including pumps, clear wells, piping, reservoirs, etc Demonstrate a working knowledge of multiple pressure systems used by the organization Read and decipher regulations and industry codes, eg, AWWA, OSHA, ASTM, ANSI, and explain requirements of same to others Display a technical knowledge of civil and water system engineering calculations, construction methods and materials Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of hydraulic principles, including those for storing and distributing water supplies Perform civil construction and inspection in concrete, steel, soils, coating systems, piping, etc Prepare or assist in performing field tests and technical investigations of the organization's water systemsReview technical investigations of specific portions of the water system based on field test data Coordinate various field tests such as water main tests, fire hydrant flow tests, large meter calibration tests, stream flow, pump and customer flow tests, and data preparation indicating the test results Perform site erosion control inspections and ensure compliance with guidelines and permitting agencies Assist in the Water Quality Initiatives WQI, including influences on watershed management, treatment management, distribution system management and piloting at the bench scaleReview current rules and regulations affecting the water treatment plants and determine the method or solution to achieve the new rules and regulations if out of compliance Apply for permits through city, county, state and regulatory agencies ie ADEM; visit and inspect work sites Prepare or assist in developing bid packages and project work scopes as requiredPrepare equipment specifications for filter plants and facilities as the Purchasing Department requires Prepare a scope of work, procurement and bid documents for bidding capital projects, procuring equipment, and annual bids for stock materials and items Perform all duties associated with the bid phase of a project, including facilitating pre-bid conferences, conducting bid openings, and preparing bid tabulations and other documents required for approval Develop requisitions and coordinate with Purchasing and Accounting departments Manage multiple or significant projects that may require sophisticated project planning techniques Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management Perform other duties as assigned Essential Job Functions Con't Education Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required. Advanced degree preferred. Experience Four (4) years of experience in process civil or environmental engineering, design, maintenance, construction engineering and project management required. Experience and working knowledge of water system hydraulic modeling and non-revenue water. Knowledge and experience with the latest ESRI water and sewer data models or equivalent model software preferred.
