Apply Now Job Information Job Title:Watershed Protection Specialist Department:Engineering Reporting Relationship: Environmental Land Administration Superintendent. FLSA Status:Exempt Grade: J General Responsibilities Enforce the organization’s watershed protection policy; review the construction site erosion control plan submitted by the developer and ensure compliance through periodic inspections. Investigate reports of environmental problems within the watersheds. Essential Job Functions 1. Maintain all organization’s watershed covenants and actively investigate current procedures necessary to meet the requirements of those covenants. Create and maintain standard operating procedures. 2. Collaborate with System Development and Distribution departments to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations in the installation of water lines. Review plans submitted for development in the watershed. 3. Educate employees on the current Watershed Protection Policy (WPP). Work with other subject matter experts (SMEs) to update the WPP. 4. Recommend improvements and additions to the in-house construction site erosion control program and watershed protection policy. 5. Coordinate with local zoning authorities on possible upcoming items of concern for the watershed and provide weekly updates. Essential Job Functions Con't 6. Visit construction sites to ensure compliance with the watershed protection policy. Maintain site records, including Engineering Site Assessments and QCI Inspection reports. 7. Monitor the organization’s landfills to ensure they are periodically graded to continue receiving filter plant residuals. 8. Conduct periodic watershed, river and lake water quality monitoring for multiple parameters as required. 9. Conduct temperature checks for the dams via SCADA technology to document the turnover of the lakes. Ensure temperature monitoring equipment is maintained. 10. Perform water quality sampling of multi-parameters and ORP and DO testing at multiple depths for the effectiveness of solar bee units and Lake Purdy Essential Job Functions Con't 11. Act as the SME and remain current on stormwater quality and quantity control technologies. 12. Maintain a list and map GPS locations of NPDES permits, monitor ADEM weekly publication to determine if there are opportunities to comment on NPDES permits regarding watersheds. 13. Monitor Alabama Surface Mining Commission notices for mining permits available for comment. 14. Perform SAP tasks related to purchasing goods and services. 15. Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management. 16. Perform other duties as assigned Education Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management, related fields such as Geology, Hydrology, Chemistry, or Civil/Environmental Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience Five (5) years of field and office experience in a related field required. Experience calculating construction estimates, areas and trigonometric functions required. Experience with maps, records and water quality management required. Excellent verbal and written communication and comprehension skills are needed for complex legal documents and issues. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project). Knowledge of ADEM and EPA Best Management Practices preferred.
