DescriptionLeidos is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented problem-solver to serve as a Modeling and Simulation Engineer to support the Advanced Materials Department. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.The Advanced Materials Department is a multi-disciplinary team that provides materials engineering expertise for every phase of a program. With backgrounds in materials science, chemistry/chemical engineering, physics, among others, the department has experience in executing a variety of efforts from R&D, to prototype development, to supporting design and build tasks for manufacturing. Beyond subject matter expertise, the department has the analysis equipment, multi-physics modelling capability and experimental lab space to support activities ranging from proof-of-concept experimentation to manufacturing support.Primary ResponsibilitiesAs an integral member of the Advanced Materials Department, this position will balance multiple activities including but not limited to:
Build efficient and accurate Digital Coupling Frameworks forexisting Modeling and Simulation tools to build integrated system with coupled physics capabilities
Support multiple Leidos programs as a subject matter expert in the area of Modeling and Simulation (M&S), including material and thermal response of composite thermal protection systems in extreme environments
Use data from the technical data package, hardware qualification and acceptance tests, and other materials, thermal, and environmental tests to support analysis activities and makes significant contributions to related test planning
Assist inguiding the selection and/or development of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) tools
Basic Qualifications
M.S. in Computational Physics or combined Physics (B.S.)/Computer Science (M.A.S.)
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineeringwith a strong Computational Science concentration, or equivalent STEM degree from an ABET accredited institution with 8+ years applicable experience (or M.S. with 6+ years)
Substantial experience with Multiphysics Coupling software, such as ARES, and other physics application software for CFD, solid-mechanics, material-response, and chemistry modeling such as ABAQUS, ATAC, US3D, CMA, Cantera, LEMANS-MOPAR
Experience executing thermo-structural analysis supporting design/production/integration for systems that experience both static and transient load cases
Experience communicating to cross-disciplinary teams and customers
Strong communication and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
Must be a resident of Huntsville, AL area or willing to relocate to work on-site at the Huntsville, AL office
U.S. Citizenship and must meet the eligibility criteria to obtain and maintain a security clearance
