Overviewi3 is seeking a Senior Aerothermal Engineer to serve as the group lead for the development and implementation of multiple hypersonic ground test facility subsystems including hypersonic nozzles, the flow survey rake, the test cabin, the force measurement / model injection system, and the facility exhaust system. Subject Matter Expertise in the fields of aerothermal analysis and design in the hypersonic (Ma > 5) regime with experience in design and operation of hypersonic test facilities is desired. This position will require aerothermal and CFD analysis of supersonic and hypersonic internal non-reactive flow streams, nozzle aerodynamic design and analysis and Thermal Protection System (TPS) design and analysis. Analytic tools such as finite element analysis codes, aerothermal analysis tools, computational fluid dynamics solvers, and dynamic system modelling tools such as Simulink will be utilized to support the analysis and design activities. Additional responsibilities will include the ground test and evaluation of materials, components, and systems addressing thermal performance. This position will be required to support and lead Integrated Project Teams (IPTs), interface with and support other IPTs (including the facility control system and test facility services) and interact with government and private industry customers in support of science and technology maturation. In addition this position will support the design, preparation, and execution of formal design reviews, test planning, and support activities for complex purchases. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of the next generation’s hypersonic design team and mentor other engineers while solving complex technical issues. Pay Range $150,000- $250,000The pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. QualificationsRequired:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field.
Experience supporting multi-disciplined teams in fast paced environments.
5+ years of leadership experience in task management or project management.
8+ years of experience in aerothermal design and development
Interest in mentorship for junior and mid-level engineers.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
The ability to travel up to 25% of the time to Huntsville, AL and Tullahoma, TN.
Preferred:
10 years of experience with hypersonic aerothermal analysis.
Experience with design and operations of aerothermal wind tunnel facilities.
Experience in the design and development of hypersonic thermal protection systems.
Experience involving the design and execution of ground testing to evaluate the performance of TPS material candidates or TPS system components.
Active U.S. Secret Clearance.
