Johns Manville Is Hiring a skilled Maintenance Mechanic II in our Phenix City, AL Plant

Hourly Rate $25.08 + $.50 shift differential for days and $1.00 for nights.

$2,000 SIGN ON BONUS

This is a skilled position working to install, repair, and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment. Working with the plant management team at all levels within the organization to support the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance, and Protection.

The Mechanic plays a critical role in supporting the plant's overall safety objectives. They must demonstrate a safety-first value, leading by example, not just abiding by all current safety rules, but supporting an environment of continuous improvement.

Your Day to Day:

Troubleshooting by use of testing equipment and other measuring techniques.

Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hand and power tools.

Adjust functional parts of equipment and control systems.

Manage downtime by coordinating with production department personnel on routine preventative and predictive maintenance practices.

Fabricate repair parts using shop equipment (welding equipment, cutting equipment, machine tools)

Install and repair various types of piping

Install, repair, and adjust conveyors

Lubricate chains, bearings, gearboxes, etc.

Rig, refurbish, and align equipment.

Operate a forklift, manlift, scissor lift.

General welding/fabrication.

Always use safe work practices, follow all safety rules and procedures, immediately report any hazardous conditions, and fully participate in safety programs.

Perform safety observations and complete training assignments.

Wears all personal protective equipment as required by management, including but not limited to protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, gloves, dust mask or respirator.

Performs other duties as directed

What You Bring to the Team:

Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or two years in role with demonstrated skill.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Mechanic license or equivalent work experience

Welding certificate or equivalent work experience

Provide own tools

Able to complete CBT training and SCC.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk and use the stairs. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and communicate accurately with coworkers. The employee will frequently engage in repetitive motions. The employee must frequently, lift, push or pull 25 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Visual acuity is required to work around and with machinery including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment. The job requires working frequently around and with heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment. The environment is not climate controlled, and employees must be able to work in environments that may be extremely hot and humid or cold depending upon the operation and the season. Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty, and uneven. Areas of the building where work must be done have high noise levels, vibration, and/or fumes. Some working areas contain the presence of airborne particles which can irritate the skin or eyes. The manufacturing process involves toxic or caustic chemicals. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment which includes steel toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection, respirators, gloves, and head protection.
