UMIAQ Design is seeking an architectural intern to collaborate on building design projects across the state of Alaska. The UMIAQ Design architectural team is actively working on many exciting long term design projects. The architectural intern will work and interact with a small team of professionals in a collaborative office setting located in Anchorage, Alaska.
Essential Functions
Develop building design and construction drawings with Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit software
Stay current on materials, building technologies, and construction methods
Selecting and evaluating building products and materials
Ensure that designs comply with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations
Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and other professionals involved in the design process
Review construction materials and techniques to ensure they meet quality standards
Collaborate with clients to determine project requirements and design parameters
Assist in the development and presentation of design proposals and designs Occasional travel to remote jobsites in Alaska accessible via small aircraft or other small motorized vehicle.
Responsibilities
Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:
Strong design skills and ability to communicate design ideas clearly
Attention to detail, motivated, and self-reliant
Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit Design software, and Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes and regulations
Arctic or northern design experience is desirable
Understanding of building materials and methods
Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, construction workers, and other professionals involved in the design and construction process
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Critical thinking
Qualifications
Required Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's in Architecture from an accredited program
NCARB IDP in process
1-3+ years of related work experience in an architectural office preferred

Ability to travel via small aircraft or other small motorized vehicle.
Authorized Driver Requirement: Employee must have a valid driver's license and three (3) year clean driving record. Employee must follow all Authorized Driver Policy and Procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.
All employees must pass Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all UIC Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and requirements.
If working on a DOT project, employees must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
