Civil Engineer

Job DescriptionThe Civil Engineer is responsible for a variety of Civil Engineering projects focused on sanitation and civil site in both rural and urban Alaska.Responsibilities

Participate in marketing, writing proposals, winning work, and developing and maintaining client relationships.

Initiate, plan, execute, and close small to medium size transportation and/or site civil projects.

Perform design tasks and/or lead a design team on civil projects; including water and sewer, landfill, general utility; and various site civil development projects.

Coordinate the work of a design team and outside consultants to develop Plans, Specifications and Estimate packages for multiple projects and a variety of clients.

Establish and maintain client relationships; ensure client satisfaction; ensure client objectives are met.

Train and mentor young professionals.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) required.

Alaska Professional Engineer registration required.

Minimum of 5 years engineering experience required, with a background in sanitation and/or site civil design.

Arctic or rural Alaskan experience preferred but not required.

A minimum of one year of experience managing small or large projects and professional staff required.

Solid understanding of civil design and construction standards, and environmental conditions and constraints.

Proven history of meeting project deadlines and budgets.

Demonstrated skills developing relationships with municipal and state agencies in support of transportation and/or site civil projects.

Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MS software applications.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients, staff and management.

Adaptability and ability to respond quickly and accurately under pressure.

Must be willing and able to travel occasionally to remote locations in Alaska, some of which includes travel in small aircraft.

A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.

Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsWeather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.Travel: Employee may travel up to 25% to various locations within the U.S. and/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs.Competencies
