Job DescriptionThe primary focus of this position is the development, design, and management of transportation projects. It also includes business development of the transportation design services market for KUNA with local agencies and gain greater access into larger agency markets with a focus on the Alaska Department of Transportation’s Infrastructure Projects. The Sr. Transportation Engineer will coordinate business development within the Civil Engineering Director.Responsibilities
Administers and coordinates project contracts.
Develops and manages project scope, budget, and schedule.
Provides project monthly reports on scope, budget, and schedule.
Manages multiple projects or one larger project.
Reviews and edits contracts in coordination with legal staff.
Follows company QA/QC processes.
Understands the role and function of each team member.
Assembles and manages project teams.
Manages and is responsible for all aspects of the project over the life of the project (initiate, plan, execute, control, close).
Manages project managers with a strong focus on profitability and client satisfaction.
Assists in developing an organization that fosters communication, teamwork and work share throughout the Civil Department and Kuna.
Creates a positive working environment including proactive communication and mentoring of professionals.
Participates in creating and upgrading operations and marketing strategies for the Civil Department.
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering. PE required.
Minimum seven (7) years successful experience in providing professional or construction related services.
Minimum two (2) years project management experience and team management.
Experience with planning, design, permitting, and project management.
Knowledge of ADOT & PF staff, standard specifications, design manuals, procurement procedures, transportation plans, and issues.
Knowledge of Alaska public funding processes and funding sources.
Working knowledge of FHA, BIA Tribal Transportation Program, municipalities and AASHTO design standards.
Knowledge of remote Alaskan and permafrost design and construction
Development of scope, schedule, and budgets.
Understanding of Earned Value project management tools and techniques.
Demonstrated track record with management program to complete project on time and on budget.
Proven track record within Alaska of, leading and managing projects.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Outstanding communication skills both written and oral.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple and complex projects in diverse areas.
A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.
Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Willingness to travel occasionally.
