Ocean Peace, Inc. is hiring for a Data Manager/Purser.

Position Overview: Data Management, Analytical Quality Control, Purser.Job Location: Onboard a commercial fishing vessel in the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska.

Job Description & Priority List:

Maintain and submit all vessel reports to the necessary government agencies. This includes all reporting to NMFS, ADF&G, the Coast Guard and the AM80 Cooperative.

Proper and accurate daily record keeping is of the upmost importance aboard the vessel. This includes daily production reports, HACCP compliance monitoring, EPA compliance monitoring, flow scale tests, electronic DCPL, Product Transfer Reports, accident reports and USCG-2692 forms.

Monitor and track bycatch and vessel quota. Stay current on fisheries status and work with the Captain to ensure that the vessel is compliant with fisheries regulations.

Maintain various Excel spreadsheets that are used to track and monitor vessel data. Develop new reports as needed to enhance workflow.

Collect daily quality control (QC) samples and fill out daily QC reports. QC requires 3-4 hours daily spent working in the factory.

Maintain an open line of communication with the Seattle office as it relates to vessel production data and information, as well as any personnel issues that need to be resolved.

Physical Ability:

Capable of boarding and exiting a vessel without physical assistance by climbing up or down gangplank, or by using a Jacob’s ladder.

Capable of boarding and entering a skiff from a dock or a boat unassisted. Boarding and exiting can occur in all weather conditions and during all seasons. The Data Manager is required to skiff between the vessel and the dock multiple times during each offload. This can often occur in rough weather.

Capable of following specific written, oral and visual directions in the event of an emergency.

Meet at designated locations to receive instructions and place on a life vest or jacket and/or survival suit without assistance.

Climb or descend one or more sets of steps both inside and outside the vessel in all weather conditions and temperatures ranging from normal or room temperature to 30 degrees below zero.

Capable of using an upper bunk without the aid of a ladder.

Capable of working and living on site for several weeks without having access to hospital services, prescription medications, or medical treatment except for first aid assistance.

Qualifications:

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Must have at-sea experience.

Familiarity with Fisheries regulations preferred.

Ability to multitask.

Good organizational skills.

Good communication skills.

Ability to work independently.
