Location: Macaulay Salmon Hatchery in Juneau, Alaska

Salary: $35,000 per year DOE plus benefits

Douglas Island Pink & Chum Inc. (DIPAC) is a private non-profit organization which manages two salmon hatcheries in the Juneau area to produce salmon for the common property fisheries of northern southeast Alaska. Macaulay Salmon Hatchery produces 135 million chum, 1.25 million Chinook, and 1.1 million Coho salmon annually. Snettisham Salmon Hatchery produces 9.5 million sockeye smolt/fry for domestic programs and approximately 11 million sockeye fry annually for transboundary river enhancement. DIPAC also manages the Ladd Macaulay Visitor Center and welcomes up to 100,000 visitors a year through the facility.

The goal of Douglas Island Pink and Chum, Inc. is to sustain and enhance valuable salmon resources of the State of Alaska for the economic, social, and cultural benefit of all citizens, and to promote public understanding of Alaska's salmon resources and salmon fisheries through research, education, and tourism. Description:

The Maintenance Technician works under the general direction of the Maintenance Engineer and will assist in the execution of projects and tasks as needed. This is an entry-level position.

The Maintenance Technician works five days per week, with scheduled shifts including Monday through Tuesday 3:30PM – 12:00AM and Friday - Sunday 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM including holidays. The Maintenance Technician will, at times, be required to work alternative schedules deemed necessary by the Maintenance Engineer or other appropriate supervisor in order to provide coverage for holidays and other scheduling conflicts. As this position is key to providing continuous personnel presence at the hatchery, reliable work attendance and scheduling flexibility is critical.

The Maintenance Technician is a permanent/salaried full-time employee.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

While working evening shift, provide janitorial services for the entire hatchery facility including daily cleaning of bathrooms and kitchenette fixtures, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting and cleaning windows.

While working day shift, the Maintenance Technician will help plan and carry out grounds keeping and building maintenance tasks such as mowing lawns, tending flower beds, snow plowing, snow shoveling, various cleaning tasks, scraping and sanding for paint preparation, and painting.

The Maintenance Technician may be asked to perform some vehicle and equipment maintenance tasks and perform other janitorial, custodial, security, and other general maintenance duties as needed.

At all times while on duty, the Maintenance Technician must be ready to respond to, and to aid in the resolution of, hatchery-related alarms and/or emergencies.

Assistance with Fish Technician responsibilities if needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

One-year experience in general building maintenance, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

The ability to work with minimal supervision, follow directions, and complete assigned tasks and projects in a timely manner.

Must be able to obtain an Alaska driver’s license. A job offer for this position is contingent upon a clean motor vehicle record for DIPAC's drivers insurance approval.

Ability to pass a background check is mandatory.

Salary and Benefits:
