In collaboration with CBJ's Tourism Best Management Practices (TBMP), JEDC is now hiring a team of crossing guards to be part of our Juneau Welcome Guard. The main focus of this job is public safety while keeping downtown traffic flowing. Paid training will be provided with a preference for candidates having prior crossing guard experience or general experiencein related sectors (e.g.,logistics, transportation, security, safety, communications, emergency response, traffic flow, dispatch, public service, military, maritime, touroperations). JOB DESCRIPTION

- Control traffic inDowntown Juneau by using STOP paddles,a whistle, hand gestures, and voice commands to direct traffic and pedestrians.

- Gear will be assigned to include reflective clothing and a 2-way radio to maintain communication with other crossing guards, the on-duty supervisor, and JEDC dispatch throughout the duration of each shift.

- Remain alert at all times and avoid multi-tasking. The use of personal cell phones is expressly prohibited and grounds for termination.

PAID TRAINING

All Juneau Welcome Guards will be provided with access to the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities Flagger Training Class before beginning their initial shifts. Successful completion is required before starting work to ensure all staff are well-versed in all required safety measures and procedural protocols.
