Legal Assistant

Matura Farrington is seeking legal assistant candidates for the branch office of a large west coast regional law firm’s Phoenix office. The current office has 5 attorneys and will be growing over time. The position is supporting several attorneys as a legal assistant, but one must have some paralegal responsibilities in their background. The position is paying up to $74,000. Depending upon experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys, ensuring the smooth operation of our busy practice.

Draft, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, discovery requests, motions, and correspondence.

Manage case files and ensure meticulous organization and maintenance of documents.

Schedule and coordinate depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and other legal proceedings.

Communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, experts, court personnel, and opposing counsel.

Assist in trial preparation by creating trial notebooks, organizing exhibits, and coordinating witness availability.

Maintain attorney calendars, manage deadlines, and ensure compliance with court schedules and procedural requirements.

Conduct substantive legal research and analysis to support case preparation and strategy development.

Prepare and file court documents, adhering to jurisdictional requirements and deadlines.

Assist with billing and timekeeping tasks to ensure accurate client invoicing.

Additional Duties (Paralegal):

Take initiative in managing and tracking the progress of cases from inception to resolution.

Facilitate the discovery process, including the preparation of discovery documents and responses.

Liaise with experts and other professionals to gather evidence and testimonies.

Contribute to case strategy discussions by providing researched insights and documentation.

Monitor changes in legislation and court decisions that may affect ongoing and future cases.

Experience with California litigation is preferred.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years of experience as a legal assistant or secretary in litigation, preferably in insurance defense.

Experience with paralegal responsibilities.

Proficient in legal software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Familiarity with Arizona court procedures and filing requirements. California experience is also preferred
