Caring Corner is currently seeking a per diem teacher assistant.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Under the supervision of the classroom teacher and/or special education staff provides specialized instruction to pupils to meet the goals and objectives as developed in the Individualized Education Program (IEP)/Individualized Family Service Program (IFSP).

2. Responsible for providing assistance so that special needs students can enjoy normal educational opportunities.

3. Anticipates the needs of special students and provides necessary assistance.

4. Assists in organizing students with special physical needs to meet regular education timelines.

5. Uses effective behavior management techniques to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

6. Creates a functional and attractive environment for learning through room displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.

7. Adjusts equipment, braces and furniture as the need arises.

8. Works collaboratively with Special Education Coordinator, nursing staff and other IEP/IFSP team members to foster student learning.

9. Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Personal Qualifications:

1. Interest and understanding of medically fragile students.

2. Flexibility, patience, interpersonal skills, empathy, positive attitude, and good nature in dealing with students with disabilities.

3. Demonstrates personal characteristics which are conducive to good communication and self-management.

4. Ability to function in a leadership role in the absence of the teacher with limited direction.

5. Must possess a private vehicle, valid California driver's license and carry current automobile insurance with at least minimum coverage for public liability and property damage.

6. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and reach freely & assist clients with standing and walking.

7. Current physical and TB within the past six months of hire.

8. Clear criminal background.

9. Proof of current CPR.

1. Ability to work effectively with children, parents, and staff.

2. Sensitive to each child's needs.

3. Performs duties and responsibilities with a high degree of professional integrity.

TRAINING AND/OR CREDENTIALS

Education:

1. Minimum 6 ECE units required (concurrent enrollment considered)

Experience:

1. Successful experience implementing IEPs/IFSPs, under the supervision of the classroom teacher for children who may have some or all of the following conditions: severe to profound mental retardation, non-ambulatory, in need of feeding training, in need of toilet training, seizure disorders, severe deficits in fine and gross motos functioning, speech and language deficity, and autism.

2. Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, materials, and strategies for educating students with severe disabling conditions.

3. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with support services, including physical and occupational therapist, speech and language pathologist, adaptive physical education specialist, psychologist, and nursing staff.
