Essential Functions:Primary responsibility is to operate and maintain heavy equipment so as to complete specific design earth works projects safely and efficiently.Job Description:
Have appropriate license and certifications to operate the equipment being used
Be on time and prepared for work every day including proper PPE
Prepare Pre-trip vehicle inspection and complete prior to leaving the yard including checking all fluids, tires, lights and all signals as listed on pre-trip
Fully understand the Piece of Equipment
Develop JSA for job
Participate in developing JSA on job sites when working on location with crews
Help to identify hazards on jobsite
Participate in safe work, behavioral safety audits and near hits
Be aware of the dangers associated with hazardous atmospheres
Gather appropriate job permits
Fill out permits correctly and have the appropriate information and signatures for the specific job
Perform tasks assigned by Crew Lead or Foreman
Operate Equipment in a safe and efficient manner
Load and Unload material
Digging and back filling various types of ditches and trenches
Shoot elevations with eye level
Perform weekly tool audits
Ensure compliance of equipment (vehicle registration / fire extinguisher)
Develop a general knowledge of SSI SOPs and frequently refer to SOP manual
Follow all SSI and customer Policies and Procedures
Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
2 year experience minimum (Prefer 3-5 Years experience)
Behavior Based Safety observer trained
Ability to communicate with employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Knowledge of Lock Out / Tag Out process
Ability to read and write in English
Ability to work with pipe and hand wrenches, hammers, shovels and gas monitors
Ability to operate various types of equipment controls (Case, John Deer, CAT, etc.)
Physical requirementsMust be able to lift 50 lbs. and work in harsh weather for long periods of time. Depending on the phase of the job, all personnel are required to work in conditions where physical demands can consist of placing ones body in various positions to inspect and accomplish certain tasks such as:
Sitting
Standing
Squatting
Raising and lowering objects from one level to another
Carrying objects, holding in hands or arms or on the shoulder
Grasping objects with the use of fingers, palm and wrists to hold and/or manipulate objects (hammers, saws, pencils, pens, etc.)
Pulling ie. Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking)
Pushing ic. Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force (includes slapping, striking, kicking and treadle actions)
Bending at the waist, stooping, working in a supine position, twisting seated or standing
Some of these physical requirements will range from seldom, frequent to constant depending on the task.
