Hiring TWO Electronics Engineering Technologists to join a large national lab in Berkeley, CA. Job DescriptionThis person will work with the Electrical Technology team and support ongoing ALS operations as a technologist. Some of this work could be R&D for upgrades or sustaining existing systems. Might also be matrixed out to other projects. The position provides advanced technical support of a variety of electronics systems. Test, evaluate, troubleshoot, repair and maintain complex electronic and electro-mechanical equipment and systems with the use of technological skills, scientific principles and mathematics.
Fabricate complex and highly specialized electronics apparatus that require advanced technical knowledge and expertise in manufacturing methods, tooling and equipment usage, circuit analysis, non-standard packaging and enclosures, and component and material selection.
Install large control, instrumentation and communication systems, which require thorough understanding and application of system integration principles.
In collaboration with engineers, designers, and electronics coordinators, design and develop complex printed prototype models for production which emphasize ease/cost of manufacturing, access for maintenance and calibration, and cost/technical performance optimization.
Design and fabricate specialized electronics packaging and enclosures, which require advanced expertise in metallic and non-metallic material forming techniques.
Perform Quality Assurance (QA) on any installation and fabrication tasks that are released from the Electronics Installation shop.
Qualifications
2+ years or related experience
Strong knowledge of electrical theory and troubleshooting, and able to troubleshoot down to the component level using electrical diagrams/theory and root cause troubleshooting, versus following an SOP
Experience building complex electronic systems per blueprint (give blueprint test)
Correctly use complex schematics (Electrical and mechanical)
Experience with soldering and hand-add/replace parts
Experience box building or building chassis and making them look neat/functional
Should be able to tell the frequency of a waveform from an Oscilloscope. Have them tell you the formula.
Understanding of some of the following electronic principals and parts & symbols (basic series circuit, parallel circuit, op amp circuit, power supply circuit, and/or gate, formula to figure out frequency by timing and voltage, current in circuit, maximizing power through resistor)
Broad knowledge of high voltage and high current power supplies and RF systems.
General electronics drafting and design-documentation skills desired.
Knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety work practices.
