Work ScheduleFirst Shift (Days)Environmental ConditionsAdherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards, Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.), Will work with hazardous/toxic materialsJob DescriptionScientist II , Antibody Conjugation - Carlsbad , CALocation/Division Specific InformationUS-Carlsbad, CA/Biosciences Division – BID OperationsSummary:The Conjugation Scientist II will be an integral member of the team, responsible for the production of fluorescent labeled bioconjugates. The antibodies we manufacture are primarily used for cell signaling in many research initiatives.Crucial Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):You will perform hands-on manufacturing tasks and work in accordance with production schedules. Must possess good mathematical skills and provide accurate data documentation. Must be well-organized and able to adapt and be flexible to a fast-paced manufacturing environment. In a timely and efficient manner, this person can work independently to produce a quality product as well as work well as part of a team to implement ideas for continuous improvement.Specific responsibilities include:

Conjugation of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies.

Perform accurate and aseptic lab techniques, good documentation practices, and good manufacturing practices.

Use of general lab equipment (centrifuges, spectrophotometers, pipettes, etc.).

Performing ion exchange chromatography, buffer and reagent preparation, FPLC (AKTA), HPLC, plate reader, etc.

Assist in the transfer of new products, processes and protocols from R&D to Manufacturing; ensure that proper training is given to respective individuals; confirm that protocols are clear and accurate.

Initiate and own Problem Reports for planned and unplanned deviations and failures.

Be an agent of change and a role model leader for peers.

Accurately document and complete all manufacturing batch records independently.

Open change orders to create and revise documentation related to the department.

Quickly navigate through laboratory database systems independently.

Follow verbal and written instructions.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Follow all departmental SOPs, guidelines, and procedures.

Call out issues timely and effectively.

Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite products with emphasis on Excel, Outlook and Word

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a biological science and 2+ years’ experience in the application of cellular or microbiology laboratory techniques in a manufacturing environment or R&D laboratory (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Strong knowledge and experience with size exclusion chromatography and FPLCs and well as strong understanding of GLP and GMP processes and documentation.

Preference for employees with experience on AKTA machines

Excellent communication (written and oral) skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. Highly motivated and dedicated individual who is well organized, meticulous with strong social skills and the ability to multitask

May be asked to lift weight of 45 pounds or more with assistance and/or with equipment on occasionCompensation and BenefitsThe hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $31.73–$47.60.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
