The PositionThe student intern position in the Finance Department provides exposure to a wide variety of public sector professional and trade career options while supporting specific learning objectives.Student interns may be assigned to specific projects or tasks, according to the intern's interests and skills and based on city needs. Specific duties and areas of responsibility will depend on the student's educational or training program. This is a part time position.Key Responsibilities
Learn by observing and assisting professionals in the assigned department where work will be performed.
May assist in account reconciliations and prepare journal entries.
May assist with collecting and organizing financial data for research.
May assist with performing analysis and preparing financial data for reports.
Assist with special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Effective interpersonal skills.
Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing software.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to gather information for reports.
Ability to learn pertinent Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
Ability to think creatively and quickly while managing multiple tasks/projects.
Experience & Education
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited academic course/program or technical/trade school
BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates appointed to internship positions are fingerprinted and subject to a criminal background check by the State Department of Justice. Internship positions do not have benefits, and cannot exceed 980 hours in a fiscal year (July 1- June 30).Paid internship positions with the City of Carlsbad receive 24 hours of sick leave per fiscal year (July 1- June 30) and are eligible to use paid sick leave 90 days after the first day of work (reported work hours). 01 What is the highest level of education you have completed?
