Another Source’s client, Chico State Enterprises, is recruiting a Procurement Buyer to join their team in Chico, California. This position offers a hybrid work schedule of two days on site per week.

Chico State Enterprises (CSE) is a non-profit auxiliary corporation of California State University, Chico (CSU, Chico). CSE provides specialized business services to support innovative research programs, community partnerships, entrepreneurial projects and other education-related activities funded by public and private grants, contracts or gifts led by faculty and associates of CSU, Chico. Annual expenditures are $61 million and support 1,800 full and part-time faculty, students, and staff.

About the role:

Reporting to the CSE Purchasing Manager, the Procurement Buyer plays a key role in supporting Chico State faculty, project directors, and their teams by ensuring the efficient and compliant purchase of goods and services. This role requires exceptional communication and customer service skills to contribute as an integral member of the CSE administrative operations team.

This role blends strategic thinking and tactical execution. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to faculty and staff, ensuring compliance while driving efficiency in the procurement process. By fostering vendor relationships and collaborating across departments, you’ll help ensure Chico State’s projects and initiatives have the resources they need to succeed.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Prepare purchase orders, requisitions, contracts, invoices, and receipts for projects.

Provide purchasing guidance and technical support to project directors and staff.

Research suppliers and source materials, equipment, and services.

Identify and onboard new vendors while maintaining strong relationships with key suppliers.

Ensure the acquisition of quality materials at competitive prices, balancing cost, reliability, and urgency.

Obtain and compare quotes, serving as the liaison between account holders and vendors.

Negotiate vendor contracts, ensuring detailed and accurate specifications, terms, and conditions.

Prepare detailed purchase requests, ensuring proper project accounts, approvals, and compliance.

Monitor open purchase orders, confirm shipping schedules, and provide regular updates to requesters.

Set up new vendor profiles in the OneSolution enterprise software as needed.

Manage contracts to ensure proper execution, adherence to terms, and timely renewals or terminations.

Oversee the Procurement Buyer inbox to ensure timely responses and service delivery.

Assist in developing and documenting purchasing policies and procedures, including user training materials.

Work closely with the Accounts Payable team to ensure proper documentation and timely resolution of payments, credits, or refunds.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, Accounting, or other related fields.

3-5 years of experience in procurement-related roles.

Additional experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Knowledge of procurement processes, regulations, and laws

Equivalent to one year of purchasing experience as a buyer or buyer trained in a competitive bidding setting or the processing or administration of contracts, service agreements, or leases.

Three years of progressive responsibility in data analysis, report development, and document imaging

Experience in the use of desktop systems including, creating, and maintaining a complex desktop database application, contract maintenance and administration, and budget management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience interviewing vendors and recommending sources of support

Experience with OneSolution a plus
